Fucking Brubaker and Sean have GOT to be one of the best duos of all time in comics. Knock it out the goddamn park int his one.

What's "The Fade Out"? Well you can all the descriptions but the meat of it is a actress is mysteriously murdered. However, the hollywood movie company who hired are is trying their darnest to cover it all up. In doing so we get to see how dark and twisted a big corporation can be, especially back int he day like this.

Charlie, our main hero here, wakes up in the same room as the dead actress and quickly runs home to his friend Gil, who has been writing screenplays for him for the last few years since he himself has been blacklisted. Once the two start breaking down both emotionally and physically over the death and cover up things get heated up when they decide to solve the case.

Good: The art...man...the fucking art here is amazing. Yes, it's always damn good in Criminal and Kill or Be killed but so damn good here. I also loved the pacing in here. Just when it slows down enough to give human moments or sad moments or tender moments it starts speeding up again with something terrible happening in the background. I also thought the characters were all morally broken and it kept me very interested as it gave a human vibe. The ending is downright sad but works so perfect for the overall topping to the story.

Bad: Some of the last moments in the comic felt a bit rushed.

Overall this was fantastic. Art to writing, Sean and Ed are really one of a kind. I loved this, maybe my 2nd favorite story behind kill or be killed. A 4.5 out of 5 but I'll bump it to a 5.

Here it is. The first major book in the DC Universe made by Brian Michael Bendis! Is it good? Actually, yeah, it's pretty fun.

So this Man of Steel Mini-series starts with Superman being the hero we all know and love. He goes around the whole city, protects everyone he can, and fights for the greater good. I know after the shitty man of steel and batman vs superman movies you might have forgotten that Supes is heroic but Bendis gives a nice reminder by having him save hundreds of people in the first few issues here.

However, we all know it can't stay good. For some reason Jon and Lois are not in this current superman storyline. Instead we get flashbacks of Clark remembering a moment when he lost his son and daughter but what happened to them and where did they go? Mystery! Then we got a new Doomsday lookalike mofo come down and try to cleanse the world of Superman and his kind.

Good: I really enjoyed watching Superman being heroic. Very true to his character. I enjoyed some of the dialog a lot, mostly with Jon and his third draw, and also liked Superman with Batman and the fire fighter. The fight scenes are pretty great at times, and some of them are out of this world epic. Oh, and nice to see Supergirl get some love here.

Bad: Okay...some of the dialog is bad. One in-particular moment is with The Flash saying "Poo Poo"...yeahhhhhhhhhhhh. Also the main villain just kind of one note. I didn't really like the change in the art every issue either, could be jarring.

Overall solid, fun, little mini series to give Bendis his opening to his new series (he'll be writing Superman AND Action Comics). It didn't blow me away but it gave me a good time, well paced, and fun action. A 3 out of 5.

I like how this had a small time skip going on. Especially cause this is where the anime starts to falter yet the Manga is actually picking up steam.

So after the brutal last volume this one shows us what Kankei and his crew have been up to. All their missions and their goals for the future. What Kankei has become and how powerful he is now and as a leader. Yet he's still funny and goofy at times. Everything opposite of what the show gave us sadly. Then we also get to see the Doves and their mission and who's moving on up and what they are doing to eliminate the ghouls.

Good: Slower burn but it opens the world up to more and more possibilities. I also loved getting to see our favorite Dove leader now with a new partner and some good comedic moments. I thought the fights in this were great, and showing the evolution of a lot of characters. Also the Kankei moment with the jewelry left for his loved one was sad.

Bad: It's slower so it's jarring of the sudden change. Also half the volume moves away from the ghouls which some people don't like.

Overall a very very solid volume once more. A lot of slower moments that help build character and new exciting missions for a lot of them. A 4 out of 5.

Man oh man it's so nice to go from one Brubaker and Sean classic (Fade Out) to another (Criminal Vol 6) in such a short time.

So what's The Last of the Innocent? Well imagine this. Archie mixed with some criminal cover up murder crime shit. We're introduced to Riley Richard who is living in the city trying to just live a normal rich man life with his very wealthy wife. His father gets sick so he travels back home to the sticks and spends his last few days there. After being with friends and family there he decides he wants to live there forever but he realizes what he must do. He has to kill his wife!

Good: The story is a breeze to get through. What I mean by that is not a single panel is wasted. The entire story is engrossing from start to finish, every piece of dialog has meaning, and the ending...goddamn. I mean the whole thing is a masterpiece of storytelling and Sean's art? Fucking fantastic. The switch between Archie Innocent type art to his regular grit is perfect.

Bad: Nothing.

This is the height of the Criminal series for me. Where's it had at worst, good volumes, some great, this is extraordinary. This might be top 20 graphic novels of all time for me. A easy 5 out of 5.

My wife was reading the actual novel and it looked good so figured I'd borrow from the Library the graphic novel.

This is a tale of a girl going through her first year at high school. Beyond friends betraying friends, weird social issues, fitting in, and more you get a darker and deeper story here. Melinda is raped the summer before high school and she keeps it all in because it's hard to talk about the events. Physically, emotionally and honestly a survival tale, this is Melinda story of how to survive through it all.

Good: The art is great. Not to overly detail, and just enough emotions to get the bigger moments across on faces. I thought the dialog was pretty solid, a bit outdated at parts, but that's all high school lingo. I thought the ending was very powerful and gave hope in a otherwise dark story.

Bad: I thought the pacing was a bit odd. Sometimes scenes thrown in make it hard to keep interested and unneeded at times.

Overall a great story about a girl's survival through probably the worst part of her life. A 4 out of 5.

Tomboy is like someone who watched a lot of anime but then also watched a lot of Dexter and then put a evil twist on it all with lots of fucked up gore.

So in this volume Jessica is the one they think is doing the killings. Some these dirty ass cops decide to kidnap her. The unhinged cop puts all the blame on his dead partner on her and violently attacks her. Addison is becoming more and more insane, with new creatures popping up in her head. By the end the series takes another violent twist, a dark future is the only ending that's coming.

Good: The series art remains so good. I just love the mix of it all. The deaths come quick and it's harsh. Like real life there's no heroic sacrifices or endings. It's just sad and fucked up. I also enjoyed the dark direction this series continues to go in despite it bubbly art.

Bad: The bad guys seem a little forced and been there done that.

Overall some good, dark, and interesting storylines going on here. Hope the series ends strong in the last volume. A 4 out of 5.

This one is really uneven. I mean, the story is fine. The secret invasion tie in is stupid but fun and she-hulk comes to play. Next arc builds up nice and the ending with the baby coming is a big oh shit moment. The art though was pretty awful half the time. A 2.5 out of 5. I'll go with 3 cause love the characters.

Tokyo Ghoul continues to be a crazy rush of "who's going to fight who" next. It's basically, at this point, a royal rumble match. So many damn groups doing their own things that when they clash people start fighting and deaths start to come out of nowhere.

So Kankei is leading his own group of Ghouls to track down the doctor who made him. Mostly to find out why he did what he did. However, of course, ghouls are getting in his way. Especially one who's extremely powerful, the leader of ward 6, and Ken pushes himself to the limits. On top of that the investigators come into play at the end and all hell breaks loose.

Good: The art actually improved here. The fight scenes were easy to follow (and very brutal) on top of that the new Kankei is scary. The ending truly brings this up almost a full star because of it's sudden change. I also thought the pacing was perfect, never boring, and well written.

Bad: Is it me or do the investigators just know when to come in at the worst possible moment? It seems a clutch at this point.

Overall great stuff. I'm really loving the 2nd half of the manga. It's much stronger than the 2nd anime series by far and just overall a blast. A easy 4 out of 5.

It pains me to say this but I didn't love this as much as I hoped.

I read issue 1 when it first came out and really enjoyed it. Wanted to wait till it was done so I can run through the whole first arc. So what's it about? Our boy Black Bolt is trapped in a prison. Not just any prison, it's run by a creature of some sorts who can take away your powers and torture you till you basically die. Over and over again he brings you the point of almost death and then plays the game to bring you back and suffer. So Black Bolt meets a couple of other inmates and their mission is prison break basically.

Good: The art is pretty solid. Very vivid and dark but works for the themes. I also enjoyed the backstory of certain criminals and goes to show you there's always more than meets the eye. Black Bolt getting to speak was nice and getting to see his reactions and such to dialog is wonderful.

Bad: Not every inmate was interesting. Some were flat out boring. I also thought the pacing was off, while sometimes really interesting and well done, other times dull. I didn't really feel the emotion the series was going for.

Overall a well constructed story and themes but misses the emotion mark for me so I didn't care about too much outside of Black Bolt. Overall a 3 out of 5.

So Robyn Hood (with a Y...ugh) looked stupid to me if I was going to be honest. A half naked chick on the cover in a badass yet sexy pose brought all the "this is why I stopped reading comics for awhile" feeling but overall the series turned out pretty okay.

SO we have Robyn here sent to the modern world as a baby. Growing up with a shitty dad who kicked out her and her sick mother and pushed around in school she grows up alone and annoyed. Then she is chased down by some sick assholes who then rape her and leave her half dead. She then is teleported back to the world she came from, you know mid-evil times, and begins the revolution we all know Robin Hood does to help the poor.

Good: I enjoyed the idea of Robin Hood in modern time. Anything with that worked. I also thought the grim and dark feeling the series had actually worked for it. Some of the deaths are brutal and sets it apart from most other fairy tale type stories. Also, I enjoyed Robyn. She was well done.

Bad: The side characters are completely useless. The villains are so over the top of rapey it's hard to take it serious. I didn't like the middle portion much of her heading back to her time period. It came off dull.

This was fun if not stupid. Funny enough I kind of want to keep going despite the oversexualized art but it's stupid and brutal and fun. So for that a 3 out of 5.
