Prentisstown isn't like other towns. Everyone can hear everyone else's thoughts in an overwhelming, never-ending stream of Noise. Just a month away from the birthday that will make him a man, Todd and his dog, Manchee -- whose thoughts Todd can hear too, whether he wants to or not -- stumble upon an area of complete silence.
I didn't get the privilege on reading this, instead of listening to it via audible. It was amazing and intense, and by god I cried buckets at one point (those who've read it, you all know).

Now I am a big Skullduggery fan, and as I got this signed by the god himself (a.k.a Mr Landy) i was ecstatic to read this! This sets you on the journey of a reunion between a band of men (maybe one or two missing) who would do the craziest of missions for their sanctuary. But I didn't like the ending very much because I didn't think I will like it without what is missing by the end.
It develops further into Valkyrie's struggle with Darquesse which i always find very interesting as well as keeping up with his usual sarcastic humour from Skullduggery.
Reread 2024 - so great beginning, but I felt the middle dragged a bit? There was so much happening between the sorcerer town who got killed by wraiths and the build up, I got lost. But once darquesse emerged it got going! I truly loved the darquesse chapter- showing more of her personality, showing us that she is valkyrie without a conscience. Ghastly and shudder were a big blow, and oml with China at the end?? Watching Skullduggery dealing without Valkyrie is absolutely heart wrenching, the way he called Stephanie Valkyrie and how he was watching out for her in battle just got me. He truly cares for Valkyrie, and ngl I may be a Skullduggery and valkyrie shipper now.

Unfortunately, I saw the film before I read the book. Fortunately, I saw the film before I read the book. I like both of these outcomes because I could enjoy the film thoroughly, however I knew the plot of the book which I don't like. This book was thrilling with the twist on the third person view, it takes you on the journey of Thomas coming into the glade life. The character development (especially chuck) was outstanding because you could relate to them all equally. But chuck has to be every ones favourite character!
The plot alone was outstanding, a personal favourite.

This is the third in the series and the most action pack. It shows about the rebellion and... I dont want to ruin it for you. I didnt enjoy reading this as much as the first two but its still heart pumpingly good.
I was forced to read this at school while preparing for my English Language course, and by forced I mean I was told to start reading it but continuing was no chore at all. Classics such as these, I find enjoyable to read as well as young adult novels from the recent era. Breathtaking prose, touching characters and a heart breaking ending. Who said only lengthy novel can make an impact? This, in my opinion, was too short a book for my liking.
This book is definitely a must-read. I feel it is under- recognized because it is so popular. This story is so well known that people don't bother reading it, but this is a mistake. I did struggle with the wording of some parts, so this means that this isn't a play for younger audiences. This doesn't mean it isn't a good story!
If you've read this and DIDN'T cry raise your hand. No-one..? Exactly.
When Bruno returns home from school one day, he discovers that his belongings are being packed in crates. His father has received a promotion and the family must move from their home to a new house far far away, where there is no one to play with and nothing to do. A tall fence running alongside stretches as far as the eye can see and cuts him off from the strange people he can see in the distance.
This puts an innocent look on nazi germany and how friendship isn't determined by anything else than the people themselves. Not their religion or background, but the people as a whole.

The shining has everything a great novel could need: interesting plot, action, tension, thrilling character development, ect, etc.. I purchased the audio version on audible and it was a long and dusty road (15 hours total) which was undoubtably a great use of my time. I delved right into the world of the overlook and wanted to speed through right on till the end just to find out what happens. It pulled at my heart strings, it filled me with anticipation and sheer terror.
This is not the first in the series but its the first I've read. I decided to read this series as the many films (Sherlock Holmes, without a clue,etc..) have intrigued me to this comical duo. The type of writing is easily understandable and can draw you into the current mystery of Watson and Holmes. This case was unexpected to whom was the culprit, which is why I am ultimately glad for this to be my first read of his.
I sadly read one of Arthur's longer novels of Sherlock Holmes (The hound of the Baskerviles) before starting on the original 56 short stories. This I've found is a great downfall because I enjoyed the latter story to be such of great interest and not as quick paced as his shorter stories which are leaving me unsatisfied with the burst. Despite this, a Scandal in Bohemia is utterly humorous with Sherlock's one liners and his remarks as well as intriguing with starting with the description of the 'late miss Irene Addler' to whom I am familiar with due to the films involing Downy.
