This book was about the Union House. I had never heard about this place until I saw this book on a recommended list for those interested in paranormal things. I didn't realize there was a part two to this book, and I am going to have to order it and read that. I thought this was a good read.

I have no idea why I did not know who this woman was, since she had so much to do with religion and the school system. I do not think I ever heard her name before I picked this book up at a used book store. This woman was a character with a capital C. I am actually pretty shocked she didn't get murdered well before she did. The facts of the case were presented well, and the story was interesting.

I have an intense dislike for the Westboro Baptist Church, especially in regards to their behavior at military funerals. I have read two other books written by former members, and was very excited to find this one. I feel bad for people who are raised in this. They are so misguided about so many things. I hope that many more of them come to the realization that there are better ways to behave towards your fellow human beings. As far as the book goes, I appreciated the personal experiences and thought process. Parts of it seemed a little slow, but nothing that was detrimental to the book. I read it pretty quickly and enjoyed it.

This book was about the serial rapist Ronnie Shelton, who was active in the mid to late 1980s. He stalked these women, broke into their homes, and assaulted them. He managed to elude police for quite some time before he was finally nailed. It is terrifying to think someone that lives in your community is out doing these kinds of things. I saw another review of someone who knew this guy and his family. I can't imagine what that must be like to know someone who carried out these kinds of attacks. You really never know what people get up to in secret. I think it was very courageous of the women to come forward. So many rapes have gone unreported, and that is sad to think about.

This book was given to me as a gift by a lady who used to come into the store where I worked. I appreciate her friendship and the gift. My sister and I spend a lot of time wandering around cemeteries looking for historical figures and other interesting people. This book was really informative about the symbolism and meanings that one finds on old tombstones. I have referenced this book several times on our adventures. Anyone who is interested in wandering cemeteries and genealogy would benefit from this quick reference guide to cemetery symbolism.

I had been looking forward to reading this book for a long time, and I was very pleased to get it for Mother's Day. I didn't realize it was such a short book, so I read though it in basically no time flat. It was a very good read. I was really surprised that the author managed to survive Nazi Germany for several reasons. Resistance fighters often met their end in various ways, not to mention being gay and Jewish. The experiences of the author were very interesting. I cannot imagine going through all that stuff.

This book is about Gennaro Anguilo, who was a prominent member of the Boston area Mafia. The FBI was aided by Whitey Bulger and his underhandedness, thus able to compile a pretty good case against the upper echelon of the Boston mob. This book was very interesting, and I enjoyed reading it.

This book goes into detail, in true Peter Maas fashion, about the life, times, and crimes of Sammy The Bull Gravano. It gives a really interesting and detailed account of the amounts of crimes that Sammy got up to, as well as his associates. It is wild how many things that organized crime has a hand in. This book also goes into detail about the circumstances surrounding Sammy's turning informant. I thought this was a very interesting read.

The main problem that I had with this book was the attitude toward religion in general. I think he is probably an atheist. I think that one should make an effort to be respectful and unbiased when reviewing other people's religions, no matter your feelings about them. The other problem that I have is that he applies the qualities of some bad people to every member of the religion. I believe that there are plenty of members, especially kids growing up now, that are not following some of these rules blindly like some of their parents. If that wasn't the case, there wouldn't be so many speaking out in court against abuses in the church and leaving the church. There was a lot of good information in this book about the Mormon Church and its founding, as well as the split between LDS and FLDS.

When I bought this book, I thought that it was about someone who was a member of the People's Temple. In fact, it is about a legal delegation belonging to Congressman Leo Ryan of which the author was a member. They went to Jonestown to check things out and see if people were in decent condition and willing to stay in the religion. As she was trying to leave, she was shot several times on the tarmac. She dedicated the rest of her life to changing laws to protect people and advance people's rights. This was a good book.
