The Whispering Dark

This held my attention I would say up until about half way. I honestly don’t know how when there are about 6 different plot lines going on and none are fully formed.
I felt like everything was very superficial, I didn’t know where any of the story was going - which is good when it’s a twisty story - but this just felt unrefined.
i didn’t care about the romance element because it was half formed and superficial, the mystery aspect was boring and didn’t give the reader enough to chew on, and the academia setting was kind of pointless because it wasn’t fleshed out enough.

I don’t need to read another book about a Black protagonist, written by a white woman.

Really struggled with the super obvious similarities to Ted Lasso so couldn’t finish it as it annoyed me

I love enemies to lovers but this was less enemies and more the guy just being a  dick. Not for me

Eurgh. Stop with the over dramatisation and immature men. A fist fight between brothers because they both fancy the same woman and one “saw her first”? Get a grip.

The Accidental Pinup

Absolutely loved the premise but the writing itself was too repetitive which made it a frustrating read. Needs one really good edit to tighten it up.

One Night with the Duke

It’s written ok, but is quite repetitive. I feel like the romance itself is lacking in chemistry and isn’t that believable. The jump to love felt too quick and the sex scene wasn’t great either.

Absolutely nothing wrong with it, it just isn’t for me

I can 100% see why someone would love this but I felt so detached from the characters and couldn’t keep reading.

I was so excited for this one, the blurb itself was brilliant and the story had SUCH potential. Unfortunately it fell flat of my expectations. I felt like I was being told rather than shown a lot, and the enemies to lovers aspect needed work. At times the characters themselves felt quite superficial and under-developed. Because of this I didn’t finish it but it has all the makings of a brilliant book if it’s fleshed out and edited more.
