I really resonated and enjoyed Mulala's voice and style of writing in his poems. There is a distinct style that I found very inspiring and great. Themes of personhood, isolation, loneliness, connection, and many other more prominent topics.

Some of my favorite poems from this collection: "Elegy (I have bitten down on the chameleon in my throat)", "Hamlet Tries Prozac", "All we Got was Autumn. All We Got Was Winter.", "Forgiveness Rock Record", "Elegy (from weather.)", "Third Sonnet", "Vertebrae", and "Clarity".

Boring. Awful writing. No movement. I could feel time going by and not in a good way.

"...Find patience enough in yourself to endure, and simplicity enough to believe; that you may acquire more and more confidence in that which is difficult."

This book had so many beautiful insights and ideas, not only on poetry and the arts, but on humanity and existence. There were a few dry points, I'm not going to lie; yet the overall message was important and can be beneficial to anyone.

Definitely worth the read. I'm looking into reading more of Rilke's work.

I was surprised how much I liked this book. There were a lot of themes and ideas that I felt touched by. One of my favorite things though was how it made me feel. I laughed, I cried a little. I think Gilbert relates her story really well and offers many deep, powerful thoughts for one to contemplate.

It's a classic for a reason! I'm intrigued to read the rest of the series, since I found this one so great.
I like seeing the original source mateerial for what the movie became; I don't htink one is better than the other, they're just different.
This was a fun and light-hearted read that just makes you feel good.
The moral of the story still stands today: all we are seeking can be found within us, if we only look within.

[Read in audiobook format] This was a deeply powerful story. I'm not sure why it's sold as being "funny" when the tone is real and serious.
McCurdy tells her story quite factually, which is refreshing to see, since there doesn't seem to be any bias. She sees her life as it was and sees the journey of getting there. There are some funny moments though.
I appreciate McCurdy's writing style and her descriptions, yet something felt off in the shorntness of the chapters, maybe could have used more detail in certain areas? I don't know.
Otherwise, it was a good listen and great to ehr her powerful story of reclamation and growth.
