Miscommunication trope. But worse than miscommunication, the main character just made random assumptions in order to pro-long the "will they won't they" for literally no reason.

My biggest complaint about this book is that there isn't really a reason for them to be minors, it just makes things slightly more weird, but doesn't add to the plot / characterization. (The impulsivity / rash decision making makes just as much sense for an 18 year old as a 16 year old.)
