It was cute. It was cozy. It was low-stakes, and at times kind of boring. It's a literary version of "Maybe the real adventure was the friends we made along the way."

Not a lot happened, and the challenges that arose were resolved pretty quickly and without time to really worry about it.

I understand why people find it comforting - the characters are adorable and charming, very few flaws and the ones they do have are akin to they just care too much.

That being said, it's not really my cup of tea. I found it cute, but there's nothing to hold on to once it's over.

Rule of Wolves was one of my favorite Grishaverse books. I was not expecting to like this book as much as the Crows duology but I really did.
Where sometimes multi POV's can create slow chapters, everyone's story was so compelling and they were woven together so nicely.
The easter eggs of
all the previous favorite characters was a really nice tie-in, and I hope desperately that that doesn't mean she's saying an official goodbye to the universe.

This book is a great starting point for learning to recognize emotionally immature behaviors in your parents (and yourself!), but it is very much a starting point. If you have been on this journey for any length of time quite a bit of it becomes redundant.
The beginning felt like it was leaning "blame all your issues on your parents, don't worry about taking accountability for anything" but later chapters did start to dive into ways to make changes in order to be more emotionally mature / attract emotionally mature people into your life which was good.
It relies heavily on anecdotes, which sometimes can be interesting, but often they were very surface level and repetitive.
Again, this book was very much for the start of the journey. If that's where I was then I do think this book would have been more eye-opening for me. As it was, I still did learn and it was able to inspire some soul searching on my part. Especially the later chapters.

I read this with my book club and we all had various opinions.
To start the author is kind of long winded. Some of the marsh descriptions just seem to go on forever. I understand that it was part of "who Kya is" but it wasn't for me.
Number two : at one point she describes a monarch butterfly as black and yellow and my book club could not let that go. All this marsh research but couldn't be bothered to google image search a monarch butterfly.
 Number three:
the character development of Kya is just so unbelievable. Not the education or even writing the book, it's the random emotional intelligence she develops after years of isolation. Her brother shows up and she's just able to be emotionally vulnerable with him and tell him about her love life? That man is a stranger she hasn't seen since she was 6. Why are they talking to each other like they've both been to therapy? Even the fact that she's aware of her abandonment issues and can articulate how that makes her feel is not something you develop just because you were taught to read.
