So, it's not my favorite of the brothers, which is a shame because I do honestly love a good second chance romance. I think a lot of this book hinged on the hope that the other books in the series were read previously in order to avoid really diving more fully into the characters.

I liked Finn, mostly. He seemed a little inconsistent, and his emotional issues/character motivations could have been fleshed out a little more. Why he left/why he came back all seemed pretty arbitrary.

And I liked Olivia, mostly, but I think a lot of my liking her was carried over from previous books and not this one. She just felt kind of bleah in this one. I really thought we were going to get a strong sassy woman who demanded some groveling, and instead their "big moment" was
him going all sad boy again and her chasing him?
Ugh. Not my cup of tea.

I kept waiting for her mom to get told off for hating Finn for legit no reason, so it was really disappointing when the conversation finally culminated in
Liv telling her off and them taking on guilt/responsibility for her dad leaving?
That's not how that should work.

I did mostly enjoy the parallels of her dad with Finn
(her having issues saying I love you, etc.), again until the end when she decided she could have been a better daughter / used that to be a better girlfriend.
Gross.

The spice was
fun, and on theme for the Rhodes boys very praise kink heavy. This one felt a little less natural to their personalities though I think because they started having more of a dom/sub vibe. (Even vibe feels like a strong word. This is not that kind of book) But Finn transitioning from chasing her around trying to prove his love is real, to making her beg for it, idk I know it can be done, it just didn't feel natural in the way that it was.

Man I was so disappointed in this book after reading Legendborn. I was so excited to see where Bree's story / character arc was going to go.

The plot went nowhere, and any character development that happened was backtracked.

The characters made a decision and started down a path, then they changed there minds, started on a new path, and so on and then the book ends.

The tension between Bree and Sel felt so manufactured and nonsensical, just to keep the "who will she choose" alive.

I loved Legendborn enough that I powered through, and will pick up book 3 when it comes out, but I'm nervous about it.
