it really was delightful. a return to the lighthearted comedic romance from books 1 and 2 but you went and ruined it by including incest and i spent the rest of the novel so nauseated i got ill
many parts of this series have been punishing. they have dragged on through aggravating hours of rage and disgust at the politics of dragon-kind and the sheer brutality that they afforded to their mates. and were that not enough, three of the previous novels have been stories tied so thoroughly into an experiment where there was no consent to be given, that everything in them cannot be looked at without that as a frame of reference. with that being said–
nothing feels quite as comfortable nor does it soothe the soul the way sebastian's unwavering love and loyalty to perry does. especially in a time when no one else treated people like perry with even a ounce of respect. it truly was the best way for me to say goodbye to the series. thank you piper scott and virginia kelly for creating perry so i can carry a little piece of him with me for the rest of my life.

wretched infernal book. horrible foul creature. 1006 pages of which a third are spent making me wish it was over and the rest of which spent beyond excited.
it’s really more of a 3.3333 repeating. betsey annoyed the fuck out of me. joker wasn’t evil enough. the rest was really fun tho!
sorta unfair to 1/5 a poetry collection but this just was not for me. i failed to connect with most of the poems and imagery. some real nice moments interspaced with rows and rows of lines that i just slogged through.
suuuper cool new magical world building with the new ways to channel elements, new flavor of demons, and the dinar channeling coins. but this book has been the weakest of the series thus far. the characters were developed decently but their motivations and actions were absent or rushed respectively. not enough time was really spent on bela’s grief despite it being a defining trait for her and her whole quad. as always i don’t think windsor is very good at writing combat cause that last 100 pages were a slog, but god i do love this universe
"maybe it won’t ever get written. only growled." there is something deeply terrible and not human just beneath my skin. its got claws and fangs and seething rage and it's just waiting to be worshipped.
3.5 but rounded up for a friend. this was an incredibly short novella, which of course meant it was rushed. the premise was unique and the characters particularly promising, meaning this could easily be fleshed out into a more detailed and longer story. i'd especially like to know more contextually about the main characters, who did take backseat in their own story given the length and exposition heavy start. there's even room with what was already written to make a prequel and a sequel, which would be well worth it given how interesting what was written already is.
