at first, I thought the book was going to be a cliche fake dating trope, but after finishing it I found it to be a good book with complex characters. Irene being an authentic cheerleader and a POC added to the story more than I had expected it to. I liked how they were still friendly after they had broken up and how Irene was given time to think and process her past relationship. The romance didn't feel rushed and felt genuine. I thought it was cute and that they made a good couple.

Our Wives Under the Sea is the first audiobook of the year, and it was a great first start. It was a gripping novel about the way that grief can be and the mystery unfolding. I loved the flipped povs throughout the book and the changed timelines able to follow both characters on both timelines added to the story. I didn't fully understand the ending, but I did like the book a little and would give it another listen.

Fake Dates and Mooncakes is a book that I DNFd at first a few months back. I can't remember why, but starting it again I was nervous that I'd DNF it for good, but it was read all in one sitting and something I genuinely enjoyed. I thought both characters were good, though cringe at times. I love a fake dating trope, but I think they're only fake dating because one was a coward and the other oblivious. I loved the aspect of culture and family and how it stayed incorporated in the entire book. I'm not sure what could've made it better to be a 5 star book for me, it was better than 3 stars but not quite four

The Fragile Threads of Power was a good book, but it took me a while to get back into the world and characters and I had forgotten how much I enjoyed them. Each character got to have their own plots while also being connected to an overarching plot which is something I've always enjoyed. I think Lila is my favorite of them all because she's truly the love child of Kaz and Inej from Six of Crows (which is my favorite book). The bond between Rhy and Kell was amazing as always, and the tension between Kell and Alucard was shown even better than in Darker Shades.

One Last Stop confused me at first, but that's only because I did;t read the synopsis at first. I was confused by the magical realism because I didn't know it was going to be there, but it was okay because I was learning with the characters. The first half felt slow, like an exposition about the character rather than something to further the plot. The second half though was good and would convince me to do a reread sometime, though the last chapter felt irrelevant in my opinion.

Squire was better than I had expected, though I was upset that it didn't feel complete. The book from what I can tell has no follow-up. I enjoyed all the characters, and especially loved the art. I feel like most graphic novels are monochrome and it was nice to see the full scale of color.

I honestly didn't enjoy the book. it had so much potential, yet had barely any plot. They talked like they were trying to act older but were pick-me girls. Almost none of the main conflicts get resolved. One of the biggest was between the mom and the dad over infertility and the mother's state of mind through the summer. It's understandable to not get resolved in one summer, but I had expected the child to have been told or to get more on the matter. It was underwhelming in writing quality, but I did enjoy the art.

Portrait of a Thief was good, but a disappointment. While the character dynamics were interesting, the plot warranted more than what was offered. There were a lot of lead-ups to the heists. The planning was well done, but once it was time for the actual heist it was over in a single page. Maybe my expectations were too high after reading Six of Crows, but for a heist book, I was expecting the heists to be on the page and not happen off-page. I did enjoy the cultural background and the characters,

No Longer Human lived up to my expectations. The existential crisis was well done and I loved how the story was linear. The timeline felt much longer than it truly was. I imagined him as 50 or later during the end and it turned out that was was just 27. The only unenjoyable thing was the blatant misogyny, but I understand that it was simply part of the character/author since it is semi-autobiographical.
