Uuuugh this book has no business being this good! I'm so mad because tried to stagger when I started reading it so l'd finish it when Hell Bent comes out but it was too good and ended up binging it lol.
This was my second read, the first time I read Ninth House was 2020 and both times found the first 20% of the book hard to get into. I think it's because there's a lot of time jumping and pov changes plus youre kind of thrown into the world and it's jarring. But once you figure it all out you won't be able to put this book down. It was just as good as i remember and luckily for me its been long enough since read it that I was still shocked by all the twists and turns.
Alex is a new member of an organization called Lethe who's job is to eep certain secret societies at Yale in check, and because of a special ability she has, she's thrown into the role and the world of New Haven without really being qualified, but she rises to the occasion.
I can't wait for Hell Bent to come out so I can find out what happens am counting the days, but the next book better have a bunch of Darlington in it or l'm gonna cry.

Very good. Probably 3.75 stars. It's not my usual genre and it wasn't as engaging as some books are for me, but it did such a good job of detailing the awkward and cringy but good intentioned performativeness I encounter so often
This was fantastic, unexpectedly so. The reviews made me to expect something a lot less coherent then it was. This was great story with a good mix of laughs and sincerity.
I really loved it. Sometimes it was hard to come back to, I can't really say why but it took me longer to read than it should've. I liked the friendship between Theo and Boris especially, I don't often read books with intense male friendships and it was a good experience
Honestly, this was too raunchy for me. I didn't hate it, and there were parts I really liked. But all in all it was too much and I also found that it was quite slow in some parts. I'm glad I read The Alex Crow (which I loved) first, because I'm not sure I would've wanted to read another Andrew Smith book if this had been my first
Parts of this book were worse than I expected based on reviews, other parts were better. It was very good though although it hurt my heart. What I really took from it, and I feel like this is weird but maybe not, is that you never really grow up or figure it all out and we're all just doing our best. Who can't relate to that?
I really enjoyed this book. I'd been in a reading slump but I read this in a day, so that's saying something. It was sad and scary and surprising.
