Dead Eleven is a super fun and creepy read about a man searching for his sister who's gone missing on an island in Lake Michigan where everyone acts like it's 1994... TBH having not grown up near great lakes I never even thought about islands where people live being in lakes like that, so that was interesting on its own.

The story is told with a mix of narrative chapters, interviews, texts etc and kinda reads like the book version of a found footage film. It's not overdone though, the majority of the book is told in normal narrative style and I think it all comes together well.

Finding out the mystery of the island is super entertaining and it's also reasonably scary! I definitely recommend this one

This book was VERY good! I highly recommend it. While it's marketed as YA, and I guess the prose fits the YA market, the subject matter is a lot darker than what I'd expect for the demographic.

Roxie is a teenage girl, raised in a cult and now living with her ex-FBI uncle, she does Veronica Mars style tasks for her schoolmates.

The other character who has POV chapters is Inez, a 21 year old sex worker. While Inez was important to the story, her chapters were so few and short that I felt like we could have done without them and just had her be a character in Roxie's story.

This book is part thriller, part mystery. There's a lot going on. A treasure hunt, a murder mystery, gentrification, and a lot of dark back stories slowly coming to light. I personally was very enthralled while reading this, I finished it in two days.

There's some very scary men and dark subject matter going on in this book, but the ending was satisfactory and the twists weren't shocking but also weren't super obvious. I definitely think this is a great book that people are gonna love!

Thanks so much to Penguin Teen Canada for the advanced copy.

Perfect book to read on a sick day

Top Heavy is a really special coming of age novel written in verse. I haven't read a novel in verse in a long time, sometimes I'm not really a fan of the style, but in this book it worked really well. Top Heavy was super readable (I finished it in less than 24 hours).

Esme is a 15 year old dancer who just made it on to the elite squad at her dance school, but it's not as fun as she hoped it would be because of bullying. She's dealing with a lot of issues like poverty due to her dads serious work injury, and being targeted due to having large breasts. But shes also got a lot of good things going on, like the face she made it onto the squad, she's making new friends and dealing with a lot of new, scary, but good things.

Overall this is a really lovely book, a great debut. I would definitely recommend this book especially to teenagers! I think it will really resonate with a lot of teenage girls and young adults.

The last few Emily Henry books I read have been kind of a miss for me, but this one I loved! I thought the premise was so cute and I really liked both main characters.

This is the second Sophie Gonzales book I've read, and I really enjoy her writing!

I love a queer royal romance, and I found her note in the beginning of the book about how she actually wrote this before they were a big thing quite interesting.

Rose and Dani are both good characters, their romance is believable and they're likable and sympathetic. I found the boarding school in a random generic European country setting super entertaining. The back story was heavy but handled well without becoming preachy.

There were two things I struggled with a bit when reading this, the first one being that it was kinda strangely pro-monarchy. I mean I guess how can it not be, and it's supposed to be very light hearted princess diaries vibe, but it still just felt a bit strange for my palate.

Then the other thing I struggled a bit with, the romance scenes were not graphic, but they were a bit more descriptive than I personally would want for a book about teenagers.

Overall, this was a super fun and entertaining book that I'd definitely recommend. Thanks to the publisher for the advanced copy!

Overall I did enjoy listening to this book on audible, however it was a little preachy for me. That's just a me thing. It's not really my type of book but I still liked it for what it was

Not sure how I felt about this one. I liked the vibes but it didn't really pull me in
