Top Heavy
by Rhonda DeChambeau
Top Heavy is a really special coming of age novel written in verse. I haven't read a novel in verse in a long time, sometimes I'm not really a fan of the style, but in this book it worked really well. Top Heavy was super readable (I finished it in less than 24 hours).
Esme is a 15 year old dancer who just made it on to the elite squad at her dance school, but it's not as fun as she hoped it would be because of bullying. She's dealing with a lot of issues like poverty due to her dads serious work injury, and being targeted due to having large breasts. But shes also got a lot of good things going on, like the face she made it onto the squad, she's making new friends and dealing with a lot of new, scary, but good things.
Overall this is a really lovely book, a great debut. I would definitely recommend this book especially to teenagers! I think it will really resonate with a lot of teenage girls and young adults.
