I enjoyed this book, and thought that the plot was brilliant. For me though this book was at least 100 pages too short. I found it difficult to become invested in the relationships because for me there wasn’t enough build into them. That said the relationship that I think was done brilliantly and I loved reading was that of Ijeoma and her mother. Overall a good book, but just lacked something deeper for me.
So this one was different. I actually really liked the overall concept of the book. I liked the different perspective. It was a very interesting way of looking at mental health, and the effects of one persons deterioration in the people around them. However, some bits were a bit too pretentious for me. And I really disliked the middle section. It felt so unlikely and I didn’t think it fit the characters. I’m glad I read it, but I’m not sure I would say I’d recommend it. A real mixed bag.
Wow! What a conclusion!! I don’t want to say to much or give anything away, but this ending was phenomenal. I am actually devastated that this trilogy is over, and I really hope that Katherine Arden revisits this world at some point in the future. I can not recommend this series highly enough.
A nice little read following three sisters as they are forced to try to reconnect by following a set of tasks laid out in their mother’s will.
This was an enjoyable read, and I enjoyed the focus on the relationships between sisters. I felt that the story behind their estrangement could have been stronger, and the love interest story line didn’t add anything for me. I also would have liked more of the book to have been from Fleur and Rose’s POV. That said, it was moving in parts and funny in parts. Overall not bad.

This book follows 3 women, looking at their pasts and the expectations they and others set upon themselves, and the reality that occurs as they progress through adulthood. I thought this was quite a raw and gritty depiction of life as a modern woman. I particularly liked Cate’s story and the way that motherhood was represented. This book wasn’t particularly plot heavy, but focused more on character, and the imperfections of humanity. Well written and thought provoking.
Re-reading the hobbit after more that 20 years filled me with nostalgia. This was the book that sparked my love of reading as a child, and will always hold a special place in my heart. Adventure, danger, friendship and a dragon - could it get any better? I think not.
The second half of Dark Age was significantly better than the first, which just felt like filler for me, and caused me to nearly DNF several times. Unfortunately this series has become progressively less enjoyable for me, and so I don’t think I will continue past this one. I have fallen out of love with the characters, and I just don’t care what happens to them anymore. There just wasn’t enough plot for me.
A beautiful story. I’d heard such good things about this book and I wasn’t disappointed. Riley did a wonderful job switching between two timelines. I loved the backdrop of Rio and the characters were fabulous. There were a few cliche phrases that grated on me, but other than that I loved it. Looking forward to starting the next one.
So disappointed. I’d really been looking forward to this book, and it started off ok. It built atmosphere and mystery, and then it got to about half way through, where the whole premise of the book was unveiled, and it was ridiculous. I had to force my way to the end. Definitely not for me.
