This is not the type of book that I usually pick up. However, someone told me that this book was like an episode of Black Mirror and because I am obsessed with that TV show, I placed this book on hold immediately. The whole entire time I was reading this book, I thought that was going to be a taboo romance with ridiculous twists and turns. And, I mean, parts of that are true, but it took WAY to long to get there in my opinion. The only character that I was really following was Mira and she only had 10 or so chapters out of the 65. Was it an entertaining book? I mean, I guess. I finished it. However, I'm still trying to wrap my head around what compelled me to finish the entire thing.
2.5/5 stars.
First and foremost, this book surrounded a character that was diverse in a way that I have never read about before. It was such a pleasure to read about a character who's culture is different than my own. However, I could understand certain parts of her life because my parents were immigrants to the U.S. as well. I really enjoy reading books where the duality of being able to connect to a character who is vastly different than you occurs. I can only imagine how important this book is for people who reflect Mei's diversity more.
That being said, this story wasn't what I thought it was going to be. It felt like there was a lot of filler in the middle, but I'm not sure where else the book would have gone. I think I was just hyper-aware that I'm not really that much into YA anymore. This just wasn't the best fit for me. I am glad that I read it though.

SO helpful for someone who wants to be a teacher. Although I do not have a job YET (it's going to happen, I feel it in my bones!) I will definitely use this book as a guide to help me during those first few weeks in my classroom.
I read this whole thing because I thought that something interesting was going to happen. I got to the end and realized that nothing did. :/
3.5/5 stars.
This was a really cute and refreshing book to read right now. It took me less than a day to read, which was really nice. I love books that are short and sweet but still manage to make me swoon. It was really good.

Before this book, I had only read a short story by Jenny Han. I loved that short story. Now, I’m starting to think that Jenny Han just knows how to get to me because I absolutely loved this book. I thought that I was growing out of cutesy books, but apparently not. However, I’m not even sure if I can classify this book as purely cutesy because it was so much more than just being cute.
I really loved Laura Jean as a character. To me both her and her family seemed so real. Her relationship with her family, especially with her sisters, really reminded me of my relationship with my siblings. Everything about this book just seemed so relatable. I loved it so much.
I really (x5) love how Jenny Han writes about diverse characters. I loved learning about the way Laura Jean and her family upkeep their Korean Culture, even though their Korean parent was no longer with them. One of my favorite things about reading books about P.O.C. is being able to relate to the character on the grounds of being different. And I totally related to Laura Jean.
I haven;t giggled and squealed over a book like this in a really long time. It was really nice. I will definitely be picking up the second book A.S.A.P.

Short and Sweet. It wasn't perfect but it wasn't the worst thing in the world either.

This was an interesting read for me. Halfway through the book, I started liking it a lot, but it took up until halfway for me to get hooked. I enjoyed the story in the end, but I doubt that I will be reading the second book. It was good, but not my favorite thing ever. I do really like Shazi as a character though. Honestly, the thing that really kept me going in this book was the relationship because I am a trashy fangirl.

My roommate is obsessed with the podcast that this graphic novel was birthed from. I have heard stories about these characters, but I did not want to listen to the podcast. This graphic novel made the whole experience much more attractive for me. Although it did take me a little bit to get into the storytelling perspective, I enjoyed the story and would definitely read the next one! It's really great to finally understand what my roommate has been gushing over for the longest time.
