This book far exceeded my expectations. The premise of getting lost in the Paris catacombs scarred me quite a bit. Once I realized this is a YA novel I was not expecting it to hit the mark. However, it went there in many ways. I appreciate the dual timeline of what's happening to the girls below the surface and what's happening above ground with the search to find these girls. I like how it does the Buffy the Vampire Slayer thing of mixing real life, coming of age demons with actual scary things such as getting lost in the catacombs and actual murdery bad guys.
There wasn't anything inherently wrong about this book. It feels very Buffy the Vampire Slayer mixed with Goosebumps. I just wish I had read this when I bought it and was excited to read it because I think it lost quite a bit of it's appeal.
I thought this was even better than the first book! I adored Hazel and Noah. I love how this series focuses on characters who are a little bit older (30's). I like that this was a little age gap situation. These books keep getting better and better!
I listened to this on audiobook. I found the town to be very charming and a fun place to immerse myself for a few hours. While the relationship in this is a bit of insta-love I was not super bothered by this fact as the relationship between Jeanie and Logan was the whole point of the book.
I have read from this author previously and I found some of the content of his books hard to read. While I do like his world building, atmosphere, and the overall themes of his stories are very interesting, I do not like reading sa content involving minors. After reading spoilers online I found out that this would not be the only instance of SA of minors in this book so I decided to DNF the book and not read from Bentley Little in the future.
I adore this series with all of my heart. I hope the author keeps coming out with new volumes of this series every few years so we can check in on these lovely characters.
