WHAT?! WOW!

This installment in the Goosebumps series is an action-packed adventure in the middle of the jungle and it is WILD! It's not the typical horror that Goosebumps delivers, but at the same time, I cannot imagine being in the jungle searching for my family with tigers, shrunken heads, pits of quicksand, and more when being just a child. So.. yea, kinda scary still! This is also one of my favorite covers in the series - look at that shrunken head! 4 stars to this one!

Dear Martin has a unique set up - between some of the chapters, our protagonist, Justyce, complements the active story by writing letters to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. kind of like a journal/project. In these letters we really get insight into his thoughts that are not making it out into conversations. This book is powerful, important, and necessary. Through character dialogue the reader gets to see a lot about racism, police brutality, affirmative action, social injustice, interracial relationships, familial issues, and more. Nic Stone does a wonderful job stoking the flames. Dear Martin gave me all the emotions: I smiled and laughed. I got hot and angry. I cried. This is a must-read. The back of the book has an assortment of review blurbs from acclaimed authors but two that stand out to me most after reading are from Jason Reynolds ("An undeniably real feast of fury and forgiveness.") and Brendan Kiely ("A mic drop of truth. Hats off.")

I am so ready for the sequel, Dear Justyce, to be released this Fall!

Tiffany McDaniel put together quite a moving and deeply important novel about family, racism, childhood abuse, devastation, and more. I cringed more than once in this due to a certain act that was happening, how someone was being treated, or what someone was thinking. It broke my heart over and over -but McDaniel's writing style is so beautiful, descriptive, and evocative that you cannot stop reading. Betty witnesses so much pain, destruction, and sadness, but her love for father and sisters (most of the time) is a beautiful reflection of her innocence and kindness. 4 stars - this book will be staying with me for quite some time!

Loved this collection of comics! It gave me total Tales From the Crypt and Creepshow vibes with a throwback to some of our classic horror stories. Highly recommended - the twists are fresh, the drawings are rad, and it's just what you need for some quick nostalgic horror goodness!

This graphic novel is fun for the whole family - and it has great, fun drawings with really cool colors! I felt like I was a kid again watching some Saturday morning cartoons and sometimes that is just the kind of feeling you need. It was a great break from everything... and provided some much needed nostalgic relief. This graphic novel tale of a brother and sister will definitely put a smile on your face! 5 stars!

Thank you to the Night Worms, author, and publisher for sending a copy!

Opposite of Always is a great blend of YA rom-com and friendship dabbled with elements of Groundhog Day and About Time. It was quite a journey for our protagonist, Jack, who falls in love with Kate, who dies over and over. Every time she dies it is like a 4-6 month reset back to the past and he has to do everything all over again, have the same conversations, etc. He starts putting his experience to good use and invests in saving Kate's life. But will doing that jeopardize in someone else dying or friendships ruined?? Reynolds does a great job here at keeping this story both light and heavy at the same time. Kate's health issue is one not to be taken lightly and it is heartbreaking for these two kids, but it's balanced quite well with all the other elements that make YA rom-com so touching and fun to read. 4.5 stars!

I had such a great time while reading CAMP! This book takes a look into self-acceptance and really smashes the concept of toxic masculinity. It explores the idea of changing or not changing yourself for someone else to love you as is. Its so nice to see gay coming-of-age that is joyous and not riddled with pain and trauma. It's great seeing a camp that CELEBRATES us instead of attempting to "fix" us. CAMP is a great queer rom-com that anyone could enjoy! 5

HUNGER ON THE CHISHOLM TRAIL is the second book in the Splatter Western series from Death's Head Press. There is a creature on the Chisholm Trail with an appetite for anything and everything in its way. This creature is a culmination of evils - and it may be one you have read about before, but M. Ennenbach gives this creature a new face. This book has action and gore aplenty so Splatter Western fans will LOVE that aspect. There are some rad characters - some make it to the end and some don't! This book keeps you on the edge of your seat and you're unsure if you need to keep reading or take a breather and grab some whiskey to prepare yourself for the horrors yet to be unfolded. Ennenbach gives us blood, horror, action, and even some romance and humor! 4 stars!

Thanks to Death's Head Press for allowing Night Worms the opportunity to book party this!
