I enjoyed this one and could basically see it unfolding in my mind like i was watching the TV episode - not sure if this one even has an episode actually. BUT in my mind it followed the same plot escalation as a Buffy episode with a powerful finale! Makes me wanna go see real pyramids, dangit!
Wow - it just totally blows my mind the things that people can get away with for so long. And I am never not surprised to hear about all this evil and greed and these dangerous people within corporate America. Great journalism here and such an interesting story! SOCIOPATHS ARE BAD, MMMKAY!
I am unnerved. I am scared. I am disgusted. This book is terror at its core and I loved it. And it is also a coming-of-age story and everyone should know just how much I love those now!
Tamer Animals is a book that has three unofficial sections. The introduction is something akin to Stranger Things or The Goonies where we are getting to know a group of boys who want to go on an unapproved camping trip for some adventure and excitement. They hope to investigate the local legend of the Goatman.
The second part is the camping trip where we start getting teased with a little horror and some bad vibes. The legend of the Goatman is discussed a little more and some ominous things start to happen to the kids in the middle of nowhere.
And the third part is sheer full-blown terror and gore and I am still not over it! There is quite a twist that is revealed that I, for one, never saw coming. It really took the book to another level for me and just pounded on the horror.
Another thing I loved about this horror book is all of the different topics that Woodward was able to discuss and include in his main story: homophobia, racism, rural America, abuse, bullying, and sexuality. At the end of the day, we are ALL people. We are all meat. We are all just tamer animals.
There are just so many layers and pieces of this book that fit together to form this amazing story. This book is an easy 5-star read and I HIGHLY recommend it to everyone!
Thanks to the author for sending the Night Worms copies in exchange for an honest review.

I think Resurrection High would make for a pretty dope episode of Are You Afraid of The Dark? or something similar. It seemed to have so much going on to really focus on just one storyline, and that is why I think it would have been awesome as a TV episode and maybe less as the book. I did still enjoy it though - I just had high hopes of enjoying it more!
I had a hard time figuring out what I was supposed to focus on: the friend who died that was supposed to be exhumed, the ghosts from the past, the bullied, angsty teen with an abusive stepfather-like figure who was into alt music and wrote poetry, etc. It seems that none of those storylines were explored in as much depth as I would have liked. However, it does seem like grief, coping, and moving on are themes at the forefront of this story.
The story read easily and put me back in the 90s. Sometimes the 90s references were just too much and it seemed that every half a page was another forced reference. While I did enjoy reading about some of the things I had forgotten from growing up then, it also got a little tired at times for me. As someone who grew up in the 90s, I definitely do not remember talking with so many pop culture references in such brief conversations.
I am going to give this one 3 stars because I did enjoy it for what it was - I just went into the book with different expectations of what was going to happen, what the main plot would be, the balance of horror vs. dark comedy, etc. This is a good book for people with a couple hours to kill who want to revisit their lives in the 90s with a light, spooky vibe!

Shari Lapena is an author that I am always looking forward to reading. The first book I read by her was The Couple Next Door and I knew that I found a thriller author that I was going to love. While her books do not tooooootally blow me away, they are great enough that I have such a good time reading and love to recommend to others to talk about. I love discussing thriller books over some wine and a meat and cheese board at the home of friends or family. There's something about it! And this is a book WORTHY of some great discussions!
The first quarter of this book was a cozy, slow-building mystery where we were getting to know these coupled characters as they were travelling to stay at a remote bed and breakfast/quaint hotel during some cold, snowy weather.
A death occurs and all bets are off as to what is next and who the killer could be! Get some good coffee/tea/wine and snuggle up on the couch and read this one!

Beautiful, tragic, angry, and haunting. 5 stars! Full review to come.
Kealan Patrick Burke is just one of those authors that knows how to get under your skin, inside your brain, and rattle your nerves. This collection of short stories is perfect for winter. I chose to read it now because Atlanta metro is predicting this ice storm (which has yet to make any iota of appearing) and I thought Dead of Winter would make the perfect read while being cooped up indoors.
In the stories presented, you can practically hear the quiet and loneliness. You can feel the isolation, sadness, and fear all at once. It's hard to explain but reading these stories made me FEEL colder physically. I thoroughly enjoyed this collection! 4 stars!

I never once thought I would complete a biography on Jim Henson - but then I also never really figured there would be one. But why? The man is beyond talented, changed the TV industry, and was a huge success. His life just fascinates me. He was involved in just SO many things aside from Sam and Friends, The Muppets, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, and The Dark Crystal. He has been a part of so many peoples' lives it is astounding. I think everyone who reads this will be filled with some happy nostalgia and a deeper appreciation of Henson and his creative brilliance!
