So this is the first Peter Straub book that I have read and I am not sure when I will get around to read another. I do have Koko and his collabs with King, but I just don't know. This book just droned on and on to me and I spent most of the book waiting. Waiting for what, I do not know. But I was waiting the whole book and just never fully engaged. It's going to get a 2.5 star rating from me. For all the 'hype' around this one I was just not overly impressed. Thank you, next.
I loved reading this book even though I knew it was going to be the last in the Gabriel Davenport series. Beverley Lee's ability to tell a story surpasses so many authors that I have read and she does not disappoint with The Purity of Crimson. With short chapters and a riveting plot this book seemed to fly by while I was reading it - and I am not complaining! I could get lost in Lee's prose and the minds of all her intricately developed characters. And we get some new ones in this book which is another bonus!
I love how this book just seems to begin so seamlessly where Book 2 ended. We get right back into our story with Gabriel, Moth, Teal, and all the others so quickly and it felt so good to be back in their world. I am definitely sad that this series has ended, but I know Lee will be back with something just as fresh and exciting for us next! Make sure you check this book and series out! 5 EASY AMAZING STARS!

A great start to an interesting series! I always enjoy reading any sort of Jack the Ripper inspired story and I also just really enjoy reading about this time period. Maniscaclo did a good job at building up the characters and she packed the book with suspense! A quick and light read full of entertainment. 4 stars from me and I am highly looking forward to the next book!
Every serial killer has to start somewhere, right?
It is clear that Backderf went to to extremes to make this as truthful as possible - if he had not, I do not think he would have included the way he and his gang all talked about and treated their "friend," Dahmer. I mean, Dahmer did act in a peculiar way that would make it difficult to befriend, sure. I found myself glancing at the title of the book so many times thinking, "I wonder if it would be better if this was My Classmate Dahmer or I Went To School With Dahmer because I truly do not think they were friends based on all of this. But maybe friendships were different in the 70s; I wasn't there! But if anything, this non-fiction graphic novel sheds some additional light into a tortured and lost soul of a person before his humanity was completely gone and the monster took over.
I definitely did not think I was going to have any sympathetic feelings for Dahmer before reading this... but I kind of do now. At least during his teenage years. Struggling with his homosexuality in an abusive home with unstable parents and no real friends is definitely rough. That sort of loneliness, isolation, and fear is not something I wish on anyone. I am shocked that his rampant alcohol abuse went so unnoticed by adults and teachers at school. Or did they also just think he was super weird and purposefully overlooked it because of who he was? We will probably never know. But I am sure that if someone was drunk every day in class and skipping school so much these days that SOME adult would be notified and show some interest... right?
At first I was not totally into the illustrations, but by the time I was halfway through, I was definitely enjoying them and appreciating the stylistic elements that make them so different from other drawings I have seen before and other drawings in the countless other comics and graphic novels that I have read before.
3.5 stars from me. It was nice to get an insider scoop from Dahmer's formative years from a classmate (again, not someone I would consider his "friend").

Michael Wehunt is officially on my radar. This book was stunning - like the cover! Can we just take a minute to appreciate this amazing cover and all those beautiful colors just swimming together?!
The story focuses on a married couple who seem to be in a little rut. Both husband and wife are creative and artistic in their careers and that forces a little isolation and less togetherness. They are not doing the best job at repairing their marriage - there's definitely a lack of communication. And now we see the entrance of The Mimes. Trust me, that's all you want me to say at this point!
This story which alternates from the wife and husband's points of view is a creeping horror that you do not want to miss. There's jealousy, resentment, and dread. And again, MIMES.
I am so lucky to have one of these limited and numbered copies of The Tired Sounds, A Wake. I am looking forward to more from Wehunt as his writing is brilliant. 5 stars!

What a ride! What would you do if you just came home one day and someone else, some other family, was living inside your home!? And to make things even crazier... you never even had your house on the market to sell! Domestic noir/thrillers are probably my faorite sub-genre in the thriller industry, and this book is an example why.
Louise Candlish crafts together a story full of dark twists and I am so excited to read more from the author. The story is told with a mix of past and present from two different perspectives and it also includes transcripts from a true crime podcast. The way the story presents itself kept me intrigued the whole way through.
Not all luxurious homes house luxurious and drama-free marriages...
4 stars!

This is the first collection of horror poetry/short stories that I have read and it just opened up a whole new world for me! I was impressed with the tales and short stories, but the poetry was even better than I could have imagined! I had no idea just how dark and twisted poetry could be. I am used to all the long-winded poems of love or loneliness. It's clear to me why and how Linda Addison won a Bram Stoker after this (trivia if you didn't know: she is the first African-American to receive the HWA Bram Stoker award) and I cannot wait for more from her!
I was not sure what to think about this when I stumbled across it in a "You might be interested..." list. But I am glad I was paying attention to my recommendations because this book was great! Full of witty satire, great characters, and just a good time! A plane full of teen beauty queens crashes on a remote island. I mean, come on! :D I will be looking at other books by this author now - I am surprised I have not heard of her before now. 4.5 stars for this one!
Out Behind the Barn by John Boden and Chad Lutzke came across to me as this dark fairy tale and horror combination. I definitely do not want to say too much as to not spoil it for anyone who has not read it. But the way these two authors craft this story is nothing short of brilliant. This story is creepy and totally surprised me. I mean... that ending! But as this is the second Lutzke book I have read I will now read whatever the man publishes with no questions in advance. And this is the first thing I have written by John Boden and now he is also on my radar and TBR! I went into this book pretty blind aside from knowing a few friends rated it highly, and I think that is a perfect way to approach this book. Open it up, get acquainted, and get shocked by this weird, creepy, heartfelt horror story! 5 stars!
Fountain Dead blends YA and horror in this multi-timeline, multi-perspective story. Part of the story takes place in the 1860s and the second part takes place in the 1980s. I do not want to give anything away about either timeline, but with the two we have a combination of teen angst/sexuality issues, haunted houses, ghosts, Native Americans, and perhaps even some slight possession. There is definitely a lot going on here - one may even wager there is too much going on.
At times I was unsure of why there was a storyline from the 1860s - at least such a predominant one for what we got out of it in the end. I would have rather read more of the spooky things happening in the "present" and some of those plotlines fleshed out a little more to resolution.
There were a couple of scenes that definitely unnerved me and I would have been afraid for real if they happened to me. I would not want to be in our protagonist's shoes by any means. But most of the true horror was at the end. I enjoyed the horror that was there but definitely wanted more of it.
Thank you to the author for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
