Fucking hell, this was 350 pages too long...

Unfortunately this one wasn't for me, for a number of reasons.

1. Too much telling and no showing, a fact that wasn't helped because our main couple narrated the story in first person POV
2. If you have to keep calling two people "frenemies" then maybe you aren't actually writing them in a way that gives off that vibe
3. Plot wise some stuff were given next to no attention, while other more inconsequential were talked about again and again
4. The two POVs became overly repetitive after one point

And there's so much more to touch on, especially with Ryder's hearing loss and eventual decision to get cochlear implants, but I feel I'm not adequately equipped to talk about.

My feelings regarding this book are...mixed. Generally, I did like it, I did enjoy myself a lot as I was reading, but at the same time, it didn't leave me completely satisfied when I finished it.

I just loved it so much. So many of Olive's thoughts resonated with me and the banter was simply awesome.

[Also happy that I finished it before September 29th

Wild from start to finish, I absolutely loved it!

This is so much fucking fun!

It just keeps getting better and better

Even though I've immensely enjoyed almost all of the books in the Wayward Children series, with this one, this wasn't the case.

I think it was mostly because we followed characters that already have a book dedicated to them and I'm itching to explore different worlds, like Christopher's for example. Also my enjoyment might have been impeded because I read this as an audiobook and I'm beginning to realise that they aren't for me

Finishing this book felt more like a relief than anything else. The first 100 pages were absolutely brilliant, the story drew me in so much, but I found the rest of it a tiny bit flat in terms of pacing and suspense and plot twists.

The writing, as always, was a joy to read and I will definitely read whatever else she comes up next with!

3.5 stars

I found this so so enjoyable. It was an easy read, the story flowed beautifully and the writing, even though it wasn't particularly flowery, it was very nice.

I couldn't help but notice the similarities with Shadow and Bone though;
Leora = Alina, with her luminous powers
Everin = Mal, as he was a tracker
Darius = clearly the Darkling as he was a corrupt mage that was once an innocent boy
Morgana = Darkling's mother, who trained Leora/Alina
The voids and the creatures = the shadow fold and the volcra that were only destroyed by Leora's light

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it really did remind me of all the previous things I mentioned and I'm curious to see if someone else made the connection as well
