A slower more emotional one, but a good one!
3,5/5. A bit overrated! This book was awesome in some parts and well... no so much in others. Let's begin with the good. The incursion in the chess world was amazing! The description of the game sequences were strangely "active" for a description of a game of chess, we felt the tension. That being said, those same descriptions of games were too many. We find ourselves reading chess games descriptions, moves and counter moves for about 20% of the book at least and that, even if really well done, become a bit too much for me. The writing felt dry, it would have been okay if it was a biography, but as a piece of fiction, I would have like the writing to be better, a bit more poetic, stylish and more depth in the psychology of the main characters, because even if we are always more or less in her head, we end up not knowing much about her. The book also have three main elements that didn't work well together, the glue didn't work, they seem alone in their respective corner. The toxicomania, the sex and of course the chess. Finally, I like the ending "twist" even if the final was very predictable and I loved the obsessive character of Beth.
Very hard to rate, because it was a very original setting and take for a novel, something that hasn't been done much and I truly enjoy it. But at the same time, the writing, the character development and the overall narrative needed more love in my very personal opinion. I think this might very well be the kind of book that the TV shows could make better and I'm curious to watch it! I'll go with a 3,5/5, maybe not the best book of the year, but interesting and original enough to make it worth it!

4,5/5. Great book! A slow pace book for sure but an incredible one! Grief! That's all there is here. The author find a pretext to put everybody in the book into a grieving process. Then, we follow those characters seeing how they manage their part. Cult, sex, drugs/alcohol, work, isolation, socialization, taking care, being useful to society, abusing society and vulnerable people, etc. Almost very possible aspect of living through grief is present here and it procures a very well executed book, very sad and maybe not the best read at the moment but so good. I highly recommend it, if grief is something you like to read on in fiction. Now I want to see the TV show even more!
Just a quick update here. I've seen the first season of the TV show and I can say without a doubt that this is the best dram I've ever seen as a series and undoubtedly in the top 5, maybe top 3 TV shows of all Time. I liked the book a lot, but this is way better. It has such a deeper characters development, it has also a touch of dark humor and a bit more fantasy/scifi elements as well. But mostly this is all about the drama experience and the universe it created. It has such a human feeling to it, a deep sense of tragedy, the non-sense of human life experience, nothing could resonated better with me at the time. The feelings of emptiness, of wanting more want you have it all (episode 9 was almost an over-edge episode for me) and all of that being surrounded by the amazing music of Max Ritcher! This is a life changing experience shows! If you love drama, I can't recommend this one enough!
Another update for the Tv Shows. Season 2 done, starting season 3 at the moment. Season 2 was not as great as the season 1 but still I consider The Leftovers to be one of the best TV Shows of the last decade with Dark. Weird, religious, multi layers of thoughts. Great show!!

Un homme qui dérape complètement dans la dépendance (surtout l'acool, mais la morphine y passe un peu également). Un style d'illustration qui sans être éblouissant est assez unique et une histoire qui pourrait être décrite de la même façon. J'ai bien aimé!
Great insight about life and living a simple one. Essential Buddhism teaching. Easy to get into while still having more depth than it looks like at first sight when you think about it. I love it and I will return to it!
Batman (1940-2011) #1
Bill Finger, Whitney Ellsworth, Guy Monroe, Bob Kane, Raymond Perry, Paul Gustavson, George Papp
Here it is, the issue that started it all. I was surprised by many things in this first issue. They are short stories, Batman smoke, Batman kill brutaly and Batman doesn't fight very well. I also didn't know that Strange was such an old character. Well lot of surprises, lot of fun, a bunch of clichés, but putting in in perspective with the year it was publish and all that, it was, and still is, groundbreaking.
Great reference book. Eventually I would love to have read all of those masterpieces present in this volume. I already have a bunch under my belt and some others on my TBR so that's good. There was also some that I never heard about and so I will have to look them up. Each works is well presented with the author, of course, the genre, the year of publishing, a description of the main characters, the plot and the critical evaluation. Not the most visually stunning book, it's old, it looks old, but still useful if you want to read your classic and need some help to gather them or maybe want tot look deeper to see what is best for you to start with. Well done and useful!
Again another of those false thriller, a housewives thriller like I usually call them. Drinking, adultery and mental health that was original... You heard the sarcastic tones I hope! It was starting really good, like the first 20 pages and then goes down hill all the way. The OCD elements could have been interesting but find out to be totally meaningless. The plot is full of holes, misleading and twists that doesn't make much sense and overall totally unoriginal. Not poorly written though the writing was alright and sometimes we see pieces of potential, but we never reach it. I already have another book by her so I might give it another try one day, but I'm not much interested into it now...
The New Lifetime Reading Plan: The Classic Guide to World Literature, Revised and Expanded
Clifton Fadiman, John S. Major
Another book of best books. Always searching for the best book or "new classics" I never read or heard about. This one present the book in their chronological order, with a short presentation, one or two pages by the author. I will use it as a reference to go deeper into reading my classics!
