The Leftovers
by Tom Perrotta
4,5/5. Great book! A slow pace book for sure but an incredible one! Grief! That's all there is here. The author find a pretext to put everybody in the book into a grieving process. Then, we follow those characters seeing how they manage their part. Cult, sex, drugs/alcohol, work, isolation, socialization, taking care, being useful to society, abusing society and vulnerable people, etc. Almost very possible aspect of living through grief is present here and it procures a very well executed book, very sad and maybe not the best read at the moment but so good. I highly recommend it, if grief is something you like to read on in fiction. Now I want to see the TV show even more!
Just a quick update here. I've seen the first season of the TV show and I can say without a doubt that this is the best dram I've ever seen as a series and undoubtedly in the top 5, maybe top 3 TV shows of all Time. I liked the book a lot, but this is way better. It has such a deeper characters development, it has also a touch of dark humor and a bit more fantasy/scifi elements as well. But mostly this is all about the drama experience and the universe it created. It has such a human feeling to it, a deep sense of tragedy, the non-sense of human life experience, nothing could resonated better with me at the time. The feelings of emptiness, of wanting more want you have it all (episode 9 was almost an over-edge episode for me) and all of that being surrounded by the amazing music of Max Ritcher! This is a life changing experience shows! If you love drama, I can't recommend this one enough!
Another update for the Tv Shows. Season 2 done, starting season 3 at the moment. Season 2 was not as great as the season 1 but still I consider The Leftovers to be one of the best TV Shows of the last decade with Dark. Weird, religious, multi layers of thoughts. Great show!!
