Batman: Under the Red Hood
Wayne Faucher, Tom Nguyen, Rodney Ramos, Doug Mahnke, Larry Stucker, Shane Davis, Cam Smith, Paul Lee, Judd Winick, Eric Battle, Mark Morales
This was fantastic! I read in on Hoopla but now I want to buy a physical copy to add to my collection. The art was great and the storyline was too. Again, Red Hood is a character I enjoy a lot and want to dive in more and this was all about him, the dark side, the action, the will to do good no matter the way or the consequence, Batman without the ethic code. I loved it!
This was seriously weird! What I like with Ito's work is how he start with a very normal setting and we slowly sliding into a hell world full of monsters and craziness. He is a strange author for sure but I like it! There is some creepy scenes and just a unique story and style. I will continue to read his work and reading about his influence I might drift into more Asian weird literature both in manga and novel to explore some more. If you're interested in manga and weird stuff Junji Ito is worth going into. Considered by many to be THE modern horror manga author, I honestly have to agree with that!
Lot of question and not much answer in this first volume of the new, and unexpected, series of Sweet Tooth! I'm very glad it happen and will read it all without a doubt. Curious to see what Lemire want to do with it!
Satisfying #100. Could have been better, could have been a lot worse too. Good action and more importantly a good way to close this part of the story, wrap it up and move on! Not relate to this one, but I'm very excited about the new Rorschach series coming out in October which I see advertised at the end of this one, that's why I'm posting it here!
Great book! McConaughey memoirs goes beyond the casual biography and share not only anecdotes from personal and professional life, but also real insights about life. That's where the book does its magic, the insight are not randomly throw at you, the anecdotes and insights work together so we see how he came to think that way, how he evolves as a person and you can in some way understand his path and rely to it so the insights are more significant and it become easier to understand them, think about them and apply to your own life. Not only does Matthew share his life with the reader, but he also use his experience to help the reader evolve as a person. Very well done and totally worth reading!!
Considered to be a true classic story in the Batman universe, I do respect the major change it brings and how it change some part of this universe up until today still, but I can't say I enjoy reading it. The story and the characters are too stereotypes, it goes too far, a lost cartoonist, and the art didn't help with that big colorful old school Batman that never really was my favorite. I like it darker, more «realistic», I respect it but didn't like it!
Quick read, fast pace, good action but we also learn a bit more about the weird monsters killers society and that's what I like the most. I'm still enjoying this series and curious about it!
Wolverine: Black, White & Blood Treasury Edition
Matthew Rosenberg, Declan Shalvey, Gerry Duggan
Interesting! I like the black and white and red arts a lot. Not the biggest fan of short stories in comic, but this one did it well enough. We get glimpses of Wolverine life from here and there and that's always a fun thing. This will be a four issues series, with I guess based on this one, 3 stories by issues so we're in for 12 shorts stories total let's hope the average quality of them all will be good. So far it is!
Continuing on my path to explore Buddhism and develop myself as an human being, this book was another stone on the road, a road I'm happy to realize I'm well upon and even If nothing much new came out of it for me, it was a good reminder of some basics things, that I clearly know but not always am able to put in practice. It would also make a strong point of entry for someone new to this exploration. Easy to get into, well done, simple way to apply the basis to your life. A good book!
