The Big Book of Twisted Fairy Tales: Stories about Kindness, Responsibility, Honesty, and Teamwork
Trying to reinvented fairytales to give them a moral is like trying to reinvented chocolate to try to add some cacao in it. It’s useless, it already have it in the original one and it just bring nothing new. Not worth it!
That isn’t my definition of dark... and when a comic book want to be dark, it shouldn’t present illustrations are colorful like they came from a children TV shows. Big failed in every aspects. I don’t get all the positive review I read, maybe it’s just me...
Beautiful book. All colorful and just a fun and happy adventure in a world just again as fun and happy. A perfect fantasy adventures for children with fantastical creatures and lovable characters. Not much in it for an adult reader, but a book that’s worth reading and that I enjoy nonetheless.
A decent book about sleep. Even if it isn't that actual, already has 20 years, it was till interesting, had good information , made you thing about how strange our relation with sleep is weird in our modern world and it was easy to read. I'm growing an interest into this subject for over 2 years now so I didn't learn much (but still have), having a good background knowledge, but for the new comers, this is a good introduction. The anecdotes to prove the author points wasn't necessary in my opinion and it cost one star to the book. Not perfect, but better then a lot and a book worth reading!
2,5/5. Not much for me here. I recognize that it isn't a bad book (maybe a 3,5/5 potential), but for me it was a miss. Way too teeny for me and I find the characters to be very clichés. The kind of «thrilling» part is just there to give it some kind of rhythm, it is a contemporary in every aspect possible. Maybe a good easy summer read for teenagers, mostly girls I would think, but definitely not my kind of read (I was probably not the intended reader either...).
Very interesting study and reflexion on Alzaheimer, dementia and the brain in general. Probably not the best vulgarize book, some part were a bit complex and present with a vocabulary that might need at least a small background in biology or neurology to understand it all. That put aside, a solid book on a subject that is an interest of me for something close to a decade now and a disease that is still not talk about as much as it deserve and need to be!
One of my biggest surprise so far this year. Wow! That was good! We often see story about WW2 but not much about the after. This one focus on a family living in a split Berlin and that was fascinating. It was easy to read, not a dense and hard read historical fiction, it was edited by Scholastic , and can easily be read by kids around 10 years old, but it was still very enjoyable for an adult. The atmosphere, the characters and the plot, everything is engaging and emotional and I really enjoy it. It also made me want to read more on Germany at that time (from the wall building to its destruction). I highly recommend this book!!
4,5/5. Every super-hero fans should read this series. It has good action, strong characters, good humor and a solid storyline. Yeah it's a be young in the overall aspect of it, so kids would really like it, but it's definitely enjoyable for adult readers as well! Love it!
