I don't remember why I have picked this book. It was probably the title, lets be honest, this is a beautiful title. And with a title like that you expect reading something deep, thoughtful and learned some lessons about life. Well... it wasn't that at all. The story felt empty, very slow pace, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but with that pacing you have to compensate with rich thinking or wonderful writing, and in this book there isn't much thinking and the writing is much more ordinary then wonderful. The story is about the live of two women and it really focus on this womanly life, which, as a man, might be why I had a lot of difficulty relate to them, but I do think that if it would have been done better I could have relate to them, it wouldn't be the first time, but clearly it didn't help. Anyway I didn't like it, it wasn't for me and it wans,t a really good book overall!
It was a good comic. I really like the art, the emphasis on mechanical aspect here and there is well done, the settings, the characters, beautiful! The story is also good, mixed between action and storyline is well balance. The characters are also entertaining. It was good, not necessarily outstanding or mind blowing but good enough to make it worth it and to deserve its place. I won't continue the series for personal reason, but I know lot of reader would like it enough to do so. Well done!
Another of those books presenting the outdoors (trees, leafs, animals, various habitats, fruits, shelter, and so many more) and activities to do in parallel of those learning/informative elements. I like the fact that this one was separated by seasons, I also really like the mixed of illustrations but also pictures and the overall organization/presentation of the book. Nothing very original, it has a lot of them out there, but this one is a good one and a well done one.
Absolutely brilliant!! The artworks as well as the story are just marvelous! Touching, raw and true. For me there are two amazingly talented creators in the comic book world Alan Moore and Jeff Lemire!! If you love comic you should check out the works of those two tremendous artists!
What a great series! Always fun, always a good mixed between action, storyline and characters evolution and some good twists to make it hard to predict where it goes. I like every book of this series so far and this book deserve to be more notice/read (even if I discover it years late...)!!
Good «encyclopedia» of those particular horror movies! It has some info (director, budget, release year, amount of gore, etc.) for each movie and an average of one page description of it. It also have various index to search movie categorized differently and it has a couple a pages explaining the context of the book and of this movie genre. Not perfect, it lacks some important movies, having the poster (at least the UK one since the book is from there) would have been great and you can probably find similar list for free on Internet. But for the books and movies lovers like me, this is a nice add up to your collection and it also allow me to discover or rediscover some movies. A decent job!
Un classique instantané pour moi! Wow!!
Easy/too simple poetry here. At first some of them were kind of good for me, I like the theme, the style was easy, but okay, but the more we get into it, the themes are very repetitive, the poems felt immature to me, like teenage poetry, and those loves lost/impossible/ended poems really turn me off. I think that maybe teenagers could rely to it more then I did, and the simple form can serve as an introduction to poetry, because they are simple and easy to understand, but for me this was a miss!
2,5/5. This was my second attempt with this series and after my first read I said I wouldn't read another one and here I'm, but this time, I swear this was the last! Not that it's that bad. Like I said in the other review, I like that a series of «horror» books is written mostly for girls. As a male adult, well... I didn't enjoy it much. It was written alright for the genre, but the girly aspect was off for me, and the horror a bit too light. I would recommend R. L. Stine way before this author to any kids (boy or girl) who want to try reading horror book, but this series, event if not great, as it's place and bring something interesting. For me this was a 1/5, but I think it has a 3,5/5 potential so I will give it a 2,5/5 generously round up to 3/5!
2,5/5. Cute story that allows kids to see various place around the world. The art was original and good but the story a bit empty for me. Highs and lows.
