What an epic ride this was!! It might not be the most original plot of all time, but it has everything in it to make it a great fantasy novel. First of all, it picked from many sub-genre of fantasy to mixed it all together. We get some epic stuff, some battle scenes, some humor really strong and great characters (probably the best part), good universe/world building with mythology and tons of monsters, some magic, friendship, flying ships, dragon!, and so much more. A must read for the fantasy fans! I'm not the biggest fans of humor mixed with action or more serious story, but in this book the author mixed it all really well and the humor is funny! I also really like the concept of old mercenary forced to make a come back, that bring some original and different characters from what we usually see. My only minus was that some fight scenes became a bit confusing some time, lot of people, lot of action and I had to slow down the reading and even go back a bit sometimes to get my self on track, not something I often do, but no big deal! It's the first novel from this author and it's a great books whatsoever, and for a first one, just crazy amazing!! I will of course read the second, and wait for the third in this series and will follow this author closely!! A unique voice!

Lu en français. Un récit un peu vide. Bien écrit, mais il se passe trop peu de chose et trop peu de réflexion, ou trop peu de pas mal tout pour valoir la peine selon moi. Décevant!

Je commence à décrocher de cette série. Je trouve les aventures, les quêtes très répétitives et tout est du pareil au même, on se retrouve à la fin sans être beaucoup plus avancé qu’au début… La fin de ce tome le sauve un peu, une bonne bataille, et une visite surprise. Le tout n’est pas mauvais et je terminerai bien sûr la série, mais je m’attendais à une série bien au-delà de la moyenne des romans jeunesses, alors qu’on est en plein dans la moyenne, légèrement supérieur peut-être, mais pas du tout aussi épique et enlevant comme je l’aurais cru. On est trop souvent dans la répétition, les clichés, les personnages évoluent trop peu et le tout demeure assez prévisible. Je m’attendais vraiment à plus…

Premier livre de la série Dune écrit par ce duo d’auteurs. On sent le changement de style, mais le tout demeure fidèle à la série. Le style est définitivement plus moderne, plus rythmé, on suit les personnages de plus près, l’histoire est plus basée sur le développement des personnages, et on sent qu’on est dans de la science-fiction plus moderne et moins classique. Cela peu plaire ou déplaire, pour ma part j’ai bien aimé, peut-être même plus que la série originale, elle demeure un classique à lire absolument, mais j’aime ce nouveau ton. On plonge dans le même univers, et comme le nom l’indique, on se retrouve avant la série originale et on y découvre/redécouvre certains personnages dans une sorte de série «origine» où on les voit grandir et on voit ces longs plans et magouillent qui se développement sur des décennies, si propre à Dune, qui se trame déjà. J’ai adoré et poursuivrai l’aventure. À lire si vous avez aimé la série originale, et même si vous avez moins aimé, tout dépend des raisons, mais le coup d’œil pourrait valoir la peine quand même pour vous…

I like this book. A very short story, well illustrated and full of action that can get young readers introduce and to like science-fiction, which is not the most frequent genre in children literature. The plot is simple enough, but still alright and there is just not any time off, so even if some kids are not very attract by reading, this action pack book can allow them to see a different style of books, that might catch their attention. Different, original and well done!

I had I hope for this book of fables and fairy tales from Asia but it let me down... The illustrations styles change from one story to another but it was always alright, sometimes better than others, but alright. The problem I found with the story is just the lack of morality/thinking behind it all. Some are entertaining and funny, but nothing really deep and just a bit easy and unoriginal story. I wasn’t captivated by it, I did enjoy it much. It isn’t garbage or anything that bad, but just a low average book.

Original subject, entomophagy, which is eating insect. Not something we talk or hear a lot about. So in term of introducing an intriguing and interesting subject, this book does it well. Was it that well done in term of literacy/artworks, not so much. The art didn’t please me much and the story isn’t really good either. If you want to introduce yourself to entomophagy that might be an easy way in, but other than that…

1,5/5. At that point I really don’t care anymore about the characters or the plot. The intrigue feel so stretch out and repetitive, the hero is just too perfect and there are too many twist and turn that break the own author rules, just like he invent something out every time he need it, that I can’t stand it. Even in fantasy, your world has to have some rules you can just make everything up has you go, R. A. Salvatore has a good talk on that a while ago in an interview... Anyway, the first one of the series surprise me in a good way, but after that, the lack of evolution and all that I mention above slowly but surely let me out of it. I know there is another book out, is it suppose to be the last, don’t know, and honestly I won’t continue on with this one. There is just better fantasy even for middle-grade one.

2,5/5. Très typique du genre YA. Une prémisse intéressante, mais ce qui devait être l'élément déclencheur, se pointe finalement vers la toute fin d le l'histoire. Le fantastique est donc mis de côté pour une bonne partie du récit et on se retrouve dans le quotidien et la romance d'adolescents. Les fans du genre pourraient apprécier, mais pour ma part je cherche toujours le roman de YA qui saura bien exploité et développer un concept, les idées de bases de ces livre sont toujours originales et intéressantes, mais on retombe toujours, ou presque du moins pour ce que j'ai lu, dans des clichés, des banalités et de la romance. Appréciation personnelle 2/5, potentiel pour des fans de genre 3,5/5.

Beautiful book about joy, what it is, where to find it, all in a very visual and easy to understand way for young ones. Really a strong important message here. The illustration are nothing out of the ordinary, but there a pretty and does the work. Well done!
