A book that try to explain or related past events/history from the ice ages or close enough. It justed didn't do it really well. The explanation are not really well vulgarize/popularize, to much text to find the bottom line of it (keep in mind that it's for a young reader, something around 8-9 years old I would say), the illustrations look like a school book from a decade ago, and I try to cover lot of stuff, in fews pages, so trying to get everywhere often lead you nowhere and that's the case here. I know it's a bad review, don't want to be rude, like always it's not about/against the author, but the book itself, and this one is not good.
I liked the big word part because it teach vocabulary, but the big words are kind of too big, so there are not really book that you will use in your day to day life. The book in itself his made of small «funny» story that involve a young boy and his cat. The humor did not really work and lack of originality. So this book, even if it started from good intention, did not achived it very well. I give two because of the vocabulary part which was a good idea, but unfortunately there is not much esle with it.
An interesting book that show how architecs have used nature has an inspiration to build building and bridge through the years. It's good because you learn the basis of architectures but it also makes you see how much well «thinks/mades the nature is.
A good adaptation has a comic book of the popular and well knowed story, The Jungle Book. The illustrations are well done, the storyline is well presented and follow the original story. It's nothing new, but if you don't know this story, or want to revisit it in another format, this might be the way.
This book has an amazing pages design, it mix a 2d minimalistic style with a more 3d computer design illustrations. So for the visual aspect of it, it's a really original book. The story in itself is simple enough two friends going on an adventure in the sea. There are a fews informations about wildlife and the importance of keeping the water clean (ecological message), which is a good thing. Fun, interesting, educational and visually original. 5 stars!
I didn't like the illustrations style and neither the story. Unoriginal, unnecessary nudity, full of clichés. Don't see the points of that one!
50 little tips about whisky. How to use it, drink it, cure cold from it and many more. Light, but it didn't cost much so it's a funny little book for those amateur whisky lovers. I didn't learn much from it, but I've fun reading it.
