idek this series is just getting better, this book was so interesting, which is to say it's even MORE interesting than the first. highly recommend!

4/5 - I definitely prefer some of the stories over others, but I love this world and these characters. To see my individual ratings and thoughts, check my status updates for this book :)

Okay here we go...
I really enjoyed this, I think it's a really great addition and expansion to Clare's Shadowhunter world! I love the relationships in this one and the brief appearances of other characters and how their impacting the shadowhunter world years later.
ALSO THAT ENDING THOUGH. I LOVE IT. ALL OF IT.
I know a lot of people have issues with the ending and I don't really see why, although I can't get into it cause spoilers, but I liked it.
I also loved getting to learn more about parabatai in this book, even though we've seen Jace and Alec, and Will and Jem already, I think it's really interesting to see how the parabatai-thing works.
If you've loved Clare's other shadowhunter novels, I definitely recommend this one! I love seeing the Blackthorns, but beware you will constantly feel AWFUL for Julian, and if you haven't read a Clare novel in a while, you might have forgotten how ANGSTY they are.
4/5!

REVIEW TO COME.
I know a lot of people will be confused as to why I rated this 3/5 instead of the popular 4/5 or 5/5. Simple answer is that there were just a few aspects that I didn't like. I will, however, be continuing the series. That's for sure!

Finished this last night. Disappointed because the first book was so much more fun (and much less annoying) than this one. Possibly more review later.

will rate in the morning

4 stars is a pretty good rating, it's funny though that big lovers of this book may be disappointed in this rating, I've got a small unpopular opinion.
I really loved this book. It's definitely one of the most unique YA books I've ever read. The Raven Boys made me feel everything, happiness, sadness, fear, anger, etc. And it's rare to find a book that will do that. I'm totally hooked on this series, and I'm happy to be, because Stiefvater manages to not waste a single word, they all contribute to a well thought out plot. I also LOVED the characters. Every. Single. One. They were so well written, and each one held their own significance, even if they don't seem to at first.
This book definitely isn't for everyone. I can say with confidence that if you don't like other paranormal books like The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, you won't like this one. And if you have a hard time with books that don't jump into conflict right away, you won't be able to get through the first 100 pages of this. (side note: I think that's totally okay, everyone has difference taste in books).
The reason this got a 4/5 and not a 5/5 from me is that for while, I didn't care at all what was going to happen to the characters. I found that, because their backstories aren't revealed early on, it made it feel like just another book despite the intriguing plot. I have confidence that I'll enjoy the other books more, because going into those, I'll already know the characters and what they're like.
As well, I think the hype was just a bit too much. Like the Throne of Glass series (for me), the first book felt so hyped up by the people who love it and can't stop talking about it, it made me go in with super high expectations and no book can live up to.

I received an Advanced Reading Copy of this book in exchange for being able to discuss and recommend it to customers as a bookseller. I wasn't paid nor required to give it a good review.
This novel takes place in a high fantasy world in a kingdom where murder is illegal (like usual) unless one of the nine assassin families initiate the murder. The kingdom worships a goddess of death, one that promises to resurrect you into a better, healthier, happier life - especially if you're killed by one of the nine families - her disciples. The world is much grander than just this, and it's all revealed as you read the book, and I liked that certain aspects of the world are shown to you instead of having to read through long explanations.
What surprised me, though, is that the rest of the writing isn't like that. I found myself being told unnecessary things about Lea's life as an assassin that seemed obvious to me.
The biggest selling point in the novel, is the romeo-and-juliet-like romance between Lea and Val (val is one of the other nine families, the families are not supposed to compete but do anyways). I don't want to spoil the book, so I can't say much about it. I like the way the author writes romance, but I really wish it wasn't such a big thing for the novel. There are so many other important things going on, but I feel like the novel succumbed to the idea that you need romance to drive a plot forward. This would have been much less predictable if there wasn't so much romance in it.
I was hoping for an action-packed, fun, new high fantasy series to read, and unfortunately, while I enjoyed a lot of themes surrounding the novel, I think these themes were brushed to the side to make room for angst and romance. Even so, where there was character development, it felt too sharp, it didn't feel natural.
For it being a series, it wrapped up pretty well. I'm not sure that I'll continue the series. I may wait to see reviews of the next books first.
I'd recommend this for something looking for a new fantasy read with a kick, and doesn't mind the debut writing. I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a bad-ass assassin story, unfortunately.

3.5 stars. I really enjoyed this play! I think it's super interesting that this is the work that popularized the word "robot". The ending confused me a little, but I'm positive we'll get to it in the class I'm reading it for. The only thing is there wasn't too much going on, it was mostly the characters having useless banter. The rest of it was pretty good though!

I've already ready In Time and Sparks Rise and you can read those (quite short, but very emotional) reviews

Beyond the Night was SO FUN AND ALSO EMOTIONAL. I always forget how much I love this series and then I'll pick up a novella or read a snippet and remember how much I love Bracken's writing and how much it always gets me. Beyond the Night is one I'd highly recommend because we get to see the TDM original gang and I love it so much! It mainly follows Sam, though, the same girl as in Sparks Rise, and Ruby's "cabin" mate in Thurmond. Just, I can't with this series and I'm positive I will always re-read it.
