Romantic Suspense is a genre I used to read a lot more, so I was excited to see how I got on with this book. While it started okay, the writing got progressively worse as the book went on. The romance was very hot and cold, going from 0 to a 100 and then back to 0. The author tried a bit to hard to make the FMC unique and gave her so many different traits that at one point it started to become annoying. I did appreciate the way FMC was handling adversity at the male-centric job, as well as some female representation that was pretty good and varied. The plot was decent, but I think the ending lacked a punch for me. I think the whole plotline around her father has some plot holes. The fact that he took of his contacts only in the instance of when he was raping her mother, but kept it a secret from the whole town since he had an upbringing that led him to hate his heterochromia. It had me going like "huh?", so I was very critical of how that impacted the storyline by the end.
Overall, it was an average read for me. But, if you need something light to pass the time and you won't think on too deeply, check it out.
Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington Books for providing me with this ARC. All opinions are my own.

This book took me over a week to read, and considering I read all of the previous books in 2 days max, it tells you everything.
I was so frustrated with the side characters. I'm 5 books into the series at this point and they still have no development and keep having the same lines over and over again. Also, a gripe I had with a certain plot point in the book:the main lead gets injured at some point and miraculously recovers 1 chapter later. There was no explanation or research as to why that happened, the rest of the characters received it as if it was expected all along. So I don't understand why there was so much tension built up on if something was to happen to him, if there was not gonna be any push back later on .
I was super frustrated with this book and had to force myself to finish. I will give this series one more try and read the next book after a couple of months, since bingeing this kind of a formulaic storyline might be contributing to my issues.

I liked this book, but didn't love it. I can't even pinpoint what exactly didn't work for me, but I just never got too invested in the characters but the story was well written and unique, I'm glad I read it.
I really enjoyed this book. It definitely had some pacing issues, and some aspects of the plot felt a bit underdeveloped. But, I loved the discussions and commentary it had and how the community aspect was such a big part of the story. The magic was very unique, and while not a lot of it was explained, I enjoyed seeing when the author chose to use it.
I'll be reading more books from this author in the future, for sure.

This book felt very mid to me. Maybe it was the audiobook narrator that is coloring my perception of the story, but the main character was so annoying and the writing was very repetitive. The ending was also meh, some things I liked, some things that left me wanting more from it. But, it's been on my TBR for years and I'm glad I finally read it.
