Okay...this just became my favorite graphic novel thus far. Nimona is an AWESOME and hilarious character and I loved the brooding yet patient personality of Blackheart. The juxtaposition of the two of them made for a bit of an Odd Couple that I found raucously hilarious.

The art style is cute, but sleek and perfectly colored. There were perhaps a few extraneous fight scene panels, but I was cool with it.

I really appreciated the play with character types. Who is the good guy? Who is the bad guy? Moral gray puked all over this narrative and I'm totally here for it. Magnificent. I was very sad to find that this is not a series. The agony! But then I discovered that Stevenson has created Lumberjanes. I guess I know what graphic novel series I'm picking up next...

I'm going to start sounding like a broken record at this point. This series is SO MUCH FUN. I'm totally obsessed. I loved the panic around finding a place to live and the interactions between the boys and the girls now that relationships are growing more complicated. I loved the film contest, especially Daisy & Susan's entry. But let's be honest, I loved just about everything about this. I would binge the entire series one after the other if my library didn't have a monthly limit on how many digital graphic novels I can borrow in a month. Let's put it this way...I currently own ZERO graphic novels. I would strongly consider buying this series. I love it as much as I loved Fence (which is a saying a lot).

Whelp. I'm officially addicted to this series. I've bonded with the characters and they are now my friends. I'm going to live vicariously through this plot for the next however long. Everything is super over-dramatacized and I'm here for it. There were moments when I was laughing out loud, but quietly as I had taken this one to bed and was slyly reading it in the dark while the rest of the family slept. I just couldn't let it go once I started. I am so in love with this trio of girlfriends and their dynamics, both individually and together. Also, I may be developing a small crush on McGraw...

An incredibly powerful read, especially for such a short novel. There is a lot to think about in this little narrative. Well-written commentary on culture, society, and the tendency to ignore the bad things around us even when we should be doing our best to protect one another.

Wrapped up in a magical realism setting and a utopian style future, there is a lot of imaginative work at play in the story and it comes together incredibly well. There were moments that were slightly difficult for me to adjust to as a reader due to altered talking styles, but these also added a lot of authentic touches that made Jam and her family a realistic unit rather than an overly stylized one.

Highly recommend for YA and adult readers. A fantastic think piece and a great novel for book clubs wishing to debate on hot topics. This will be a read that I will be returning to in the future.

I love this series so much! A maturish middle grade read with a lot of good underlying messages. It can be gruesome and violent, but is also written with a fantastic amount of snark. The narrator voice is absolute perfection. A collection of several reimaginings woven into a great story.

I do recommend reading this one in very close proximity to the other two. While the initial book and the sequel technically standalone fine, this conclusion requires some knowledge of the previous stories and there were moments I found myself a bit lost as I tried to recall the earlier books. But that just gives me a good reason to go back and read them all again.

This is absolutely among my favorite middle grade series reads. Recommend for more mature middle grade readers. Do not recommend for younger middle grade levels due to the violent content. Ages 10+ would probably be best depending on how well the child can handle that part of the subject matter.
