I feel like I'm the only person in the world that didn't absolutely love this book. There are quite a few things it does very well. The Child is an interesting twist on possession, using a mother and child's love for each other to great effect. The author also does a great job with making the reader feel sympathy for the characters.
My main quibble with the book was that so many chapters felt absolutely unnecessary to the story. Several chapters are spent on the neighbors alone and I didn't feel it did anything to move the story along. Same with an entire chapter about the people working in a pizza party. I feel I could have skipped those chapters entirely and still felt what the author wanted me to feel when things go sideways.
All in all, this was an interesting premise that ultimately didn't quite deliver for me.

First off, I'd say this book is a little light on horror, but it more than makes up for it with fun action sequences and a very likeable anti-hero. I'd categorize the book as crime thriller with a touch of the supernatural. Whatever you call it, Dear Diary is tons of fun. Buddy Fisk is a great character and I would absolutely read about his further adventures.

Another outstanding effort from John Lynch! This collection should have something to please everyone. It contains some excellent creature features and plenty of human monsters, too. Mr. Lynch's sophomore book has confirmed that he is certainly an author to watch and that I will definitely be buying his future titles.

3.5 stars rounded up. Told in two parts, this is the story of Terry and Drew. Drew died in a car accident, but Terry isn't going to let a silly little thing like death get in the way of true love. What follows is a modern-day Frankenstein story with a bit of a twist. I had a lot of fun with this one!

To me, the mark of a really great short story collection is: do the stories leave me wanting more? In the case of Les Femmes Grotesques, the answer is a resounding yes! Almost all of these stories could be expanded to novella or novel length and I still would have devoured them. It's hard to pick favorites, but the standout stories for me are The Guest, The Horror on Sycamore Lane, The Ranch, and The Dare.

The White is a great novella! The action starts right away and the pacing is great throughout. Even though you only get to spend a short time with them, I thought the characters were very believable and well fleshed out. I'll be on the lookout for more books by Matt Micheli.

I was gifted a copy of Bloodline by the authors in exchange for my honest review.
My first book by both authors and it won't be my last. This is a fun ghost story wrapped up in a couple of different mysteries. Although I figured out one of the who-dunnits fairly early on, there was still plenty more twists to keep me guessing. Highly recommended.

This was a fun little slice of small town, Gothic horror. I found myself quickly absorbed by the rumors and petty squabbles of the citizens of Raventree Hollow and finished the book in two sittings. When things start to go wrong, they do so very fast and I devoured the last half of the book, leading to the very satisfying conclusion.

I was provided a copy of Fang Fiction in exchange for my honest review.
3.75 stars rounded up. Vampires are something I never get sick of reading about. Fang Fiction is a collection of vampire stories, each one taking place in a different place and time period, stretching from pre-history to the far future. No romanticized, lovey-dovey vampires here, just blood-thirsty killing machines - just the way I like them. This is a very fun, creative compilation and I look forward to reading more from L.M. Kaplin.
