The Child

I feel like I'm the only person in the world that didn't absolutely love this book. There are quite a few things it does very well. The Child is an interesting twist on possession, using a mother and child's love for each other to great effect. The author also does a great job with making the reader feel sympathy for the characters.
My main quibble with the book was that so many chapters felt absolutely unnecessary to the story. Several chapters are spent on the neighbors alone and I didn't feel it did anything to move the story along. Same with an entire chapter about the people working in a pizza party. I feel I could have skipped those chapters entirely and still felt what the author wanted me to feel when things go sideways.
All in all, this was an interesting premise that ultimately didn't quite deliver for me.
