W-T-A-FUCK?!?!!! Mind blowing, addictive read! I need to start the third one immediately but I don’t have it to hand until much later today

Although it took me a while to get into due to the slow pacing, half way through I instantly began to love it, and I could not put it down until I finished it. It was atmospheric, heartbreaking, frustrating and beautiful.

There are a fair few characters within this book. I’m not keen on having too many characters in one book cos it’s too confusing for me. However with a small handful of POVs it became easy to follow, and the writer made it clear throughout the book who was who.
The characters came across as a bit immature and annoying, especially Miranda. But I suppose that was the aim?

First couple of chapters was interesting - unusual. I love unusual! But... *ack* I dunno... after that initial hype... it was just... meh. Which soon turned into: for fuck sake, is it over yet?!?!
I’m struggling to pinpoint exactly what it was that bothered me so much about the book: the characters, the dialogue, the writing, all of it...
So, here are a few words that come to mind, because, to try and explain the depths of what I feel about this book halts me. And I cannot for the life of me bring full sentences to my mind or fingertips:

Tell not show (irritates the shit out of me in any book tbh)
Pointless POINTLESS dialogue
Lacking
Drivel (so! much! of it!)
Despondent
Non-absorbing
Tried too hard to be funny
Ridiculous
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wannabe (sorry not sorry)

In the book a character mentioned how the Germans have a word for various feelings and acts and tendencies etc. And I wish there was a word that described how I felt about this book.

The only positive thing I can take away from this book are all the new words I’ve learnt, and that’s probably why I generously gave it two stars.

It was okay.
It’s the first book I’ve read that includes a POV from an animal, which was interesting and I actually enjoyed it.
Determination was the main focal point, I think, in this book - which was heartwarming, but.... it was lacking somehow... I think it was due to it being a little unrealistic with regards to a 12, almost 13, year old boy travelling 300 miles to find his fox. Without a map.... Dunno just seems... unbelievable. Cute but unbelievable.

Maybe I’m just being heartless *nervous laughter*

I knew Erin Morgenstern wouldn’t disappoint! Without a doubt 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If someone was to ask me what my favourite book is I’d blurt out THE NIGHT CIRCUS!! But now? After reading THIS?! Well... I can now say The Starless Sea AND The Night Circus are my favourites.

This book was lush! I’d even go as far as to say it was better than The Night Circus - gasp! and *insert monkey covering mouth emoji*

Everything about it was beautiful!

Normally when reading books, I admittedly struggle to envision what’s before my eyes, struggle to being there, you know. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s cos my brain has too many tabs open and I get easy distracted with other stuff. But in The Starless Sea I saw everything. I was there. I was fully submerged! (Excuse the pun).

Absolutely unreal!

I honestly think Erin is my favourite author. Her words, her wonderful imagination captivate me each time I turn pages in her books. She needs to write more!!!


This book will stay with me forever. The version I had of the book was on Kindle but now I wish I had a physical copy, too. I might have to invest in the hardcover whilst it’s still available cos I needs it.

I will honestly reread this again in the future. Rereading books is something I tend to avoid because there are literally THOUSANDS of books that needs to be read. But I need to revisit The Starless Sea very soon.

I’ve never read poetry before. At least, not as an adult. I didn’t think I’d ‘get’ them. I thought poetry was beyond my thinking capabilities. Anywho, I wanted to give this a try for something different. (I’m expanding my genres for want of diversity.)

It did not disappoint!

So powerful and poignant, so heartbreaking and sorrowful. MINDBLOWING! I’ve never read a book like it, but I definitely need to read more like it!

The Poet X really pulled at my heartstrings. I was upset, angry, attentive, sympathetic and empathetic, elated and relieved. CRIED! I’ve never cried at a book before

This and The Half-Blood Prince are my absolute top favourites of mine from the Harry Potter series! Always get sad about Lupins departure. Not only is he the pupils favourite teacher, he's mine too
