Great art! Like a Ghibli movie everything looks soft, stylized, and detailed. I especially loved all the outfit changes.
I was having a hard time getting into the story at first, but I did really enjoy the latter half of this graphic novel.
lighthearted reflective fast-paced

I'm Filipino and Mexican American with divorced parents so I identified with a lot of things that Malaka wrote about. However, I didn't care much for the art style. Although it could be argued that the style suited the childhood portion, I just like more polished looking art in graphic novels.

This story has a melancholic vibe and characters you’d can’t help but root for. Very soft and slice of life.

Did you ever read a romance where the main character's ex-boyfriend is super toxic but keeps stringing the main character along because the main character loooooves them and hey doesn't everyone have issues (I'm not trying to dismiss Luke's fear and grief but just because you're suffering doesn't give you the right to make others suffer)? Did you ever think hey that ex should be the main character, and they should also be the endgame? Because this is that book.

Luke is an asshole (he admits it himself, and no, that doesn't make it better). He keeps remarking on how young Jesse is and how Jesse is too naive to know how things work. Right before they get together, Luke kisses Jesse and Jesse says no and tries to push Luke away but Luke keep kissing and they end up having sex; this is not consent, there may very well have been consent but it was not explicitly shown to the reader. After
they break
up he acts manipulatively to keep Jesse hung up on him, and he constantly shifts the blame onto Jesse. I don't know what Jesse sees in him beyond hero-worship.

This book has to be from Luke's POV because no one would be happy w

I loved Nettle and Bones and went in with the expectation that there was no way that I would like What Moves the Dead as much (I like fairytales but am pretty meh about Poe). I'm so blown away, this. is. so. GOOD.
A perfect book for spooky season.
emotional informative fast-paced

The second half is dense, my eyes were glazing over a couple times which was unfortunate since it’s all good information.

I love the narrator so much, I want an entire series with this witch.

I am all on board for this except for the last hurtle in Imelda and Ambrose's relationship
when she finds the slippers and assumes that he's trying to control her because of what her psychotic aunt said
had me rolling my eyes because it was a little too rom-com. I also think horse cloak was under utilized.

I adore Skye and her strength, positivity, and determination. She’s not unaffected by haters and I admire her for not letting them deter her from going for her dreams.

If I had one criticism, it’s that Henry was a bit bland. He pretty much can be boiled down to a hot body with a cute personality. Skye deserves a more fleshed out love interest; heck this book, which has a message that your body shouldn’t determine who you are, deserves more than hot-but-nice.
