Did you ever read a romance where the main character's ex-boyfriend is super toxic but keeps stringing the main character along because the main character loooooves them and hey doesn't everyone have issues (I'm not trying to dismiss Luke's fear and grief but just because you're suffering doesn't give you the right to make others suffer)? Did you ever think hey that ex should be the main character, and they should also be the endgame? Because this is that book.

Luke is an asshole (he admits it himself, and no, that doesn't make it better). He keeps remarking on how young Jesse is and how Jesse is too naive to know how things work. Right before they get together, Luke kisses Jesse and Jesse says no and tries to push Luke away but Luke keep kissing and they end up having sex; this is not consent, there may very well have been consent but it was not explicitly shown to the reader. After
they break
up he acts manipulatively to keep Jesse hung up on him, and he constantly shifts the blame onto Jesse. I don't know what Jesse sees in him beyond hero-worship.

This book has to be from Luke's POV because no one would be happy w
