So, it’s a week after I finished Dive Smack and trying to put together coherent words is still a challenge. WHAT the heck when do I get my heart back?

Here’s what I loved about #DIVESMACK (basically everything):
1. Characters you can’t forget. Thrillers are at their best for me when they’re character first. When I’m looking for thrill, I want to be inside the character’s heads, feeling what they’re feeling, questioning what they’re questioning. Dive Smack puts the characters front and center; Theo’s voice is clear through the story.
2. An interesting parallel with diving and Theo’s life. Demetra starts every chapter with a dive term that directly correlates to the piece of the story that unfolds within. This adds intrigue and also builds the reader’s sense of what Theo is experiencing.
3. The build toward the unraveling. As the story progresses, you become completely unnerved. My skin was crawling all the way through the end.
4. Psychology that will make you rethink everything you knew. I can’t say a lot about how the psychological aspect of the story unfolds but you find out quickly that not everything is what it seems. It’s like not what you assume, either.
5. A satisfying ending. The end never felt rushed or unbelievable. I appreciate that my questions were answered!

PS - we all need a Chip in our lives. #YouGotThis <3

I Have Lost My Way was exactly what I was looking for in a Gayla Forman novel!

Told through the lives of three young adults, all lost but in different ways, I Have Lost My Way is a book I won’t easily be able to get out my head. I found Freya, Harun, and Nathaniel to be genuine and relatable - I wanted to know more about them. I cared about them. I hope with a title like I Have Lost My Way, that you wouldn’t go into it expecting fluff.

There’s heartbreak and loss and smiles and friendship. We know a lot about one character and almost nothing about another, which is part of the journey. A journey that takes place in one day. This book shows you just how much of an impact one day can have on a person. With that said, this story is still entirely character driven and I am here for that.

I think about a quote I once read, about how strange it is that we find other humans and just decide they’re our people. We marry them, love them, friend them, accept them, trust them. I Have Lost My Way is a beautiful example of this and I am fan!

I would like my heart back since Jessica clearly stole it in this one.

Two things I love: music and books. Put them together and I AM IN LOVE. With Love Songs & Other Lies.

I don’t know what I was expecting but this book blew whatever that was out of the park. I can’t believe how invested I became in the characters and their journeys, both set in the present and not-too-distant past. I found myself cheering for Vee and Cam the whole way through. Told through alternating POV, we get to know Vee and Cam, getting peeks inside the parts of each other that they can’t yet see of themselves. I was so endeared to both and all of the characters around them.

I also appreciate that it’s set a little later than the usual YA, something that seems to be a trend this year. The transition after high school and into adulthood is an important part of being a young adult! Add in a reality TV show and the drama of a tour bus and this is sure to be a hit.

Highly recommend this on audio, with two narrators alternating.

Not my favorite Rachel & David book but I need a novella on grandma.

Sky in the Deep is a unique warrior story rich with characters you won't soon forget. Set in the Viking era, this fantasy-light story explores the relationships between family, enemies, and the complex human emotions surrounding both. Sky in the Deep has a lot to offer fans of all genres!

If I were to describe Picture Us in the Light in one word it might be “complex.” Or maybe “squishy.” “Beautiful.”

Human.

I have a bad (?) habit of not fully reading synopsis before picking up a book. Really, I don’t need to when it comes to Kelly and her books. Conviction is easily one of the books you’ll ever read so there was exactly zero chance I wouldn’t love this.

I sit here, a week after finishing, unable to read anything else. Danny’s story isn’t just the story of a child of immigrants, of an artist, of a Silicon Valley youth trying to get into our incredibly competitive college system, of someone who is grieving, of secrets, of family, of friendship, of love, of heartbreak. Danny’s story is the story of how complex, squishy, and beautiful our human lives are.

Kelly drops us right into the action- Danny’s college acceptance into his dream school with his dream major. It’s such a beautiful moment, where Danny and his parents recognize their sacrifices and choices (on so many levels) have made it possible for him. We meet Henry, his best friend, and his group of friends. We look into their environment - the small-town feel of Cupertino (home of Apple and safe streets). We sense his world crumbling and his resilience.

In this story, so much happens but honestly it’s all about Danny and you going through the emotions and experiences he’s having. You’re going to experience every emotion Danny has, which are across the entire spectrum. There are shifts in the timeline that reflect situations leading up to the present and help shape Danny and his community. Kelly works her writing magic and brings it all together, leaving us readers in a puddle.

Well that was just a fun little thrill.

Such a beautiful book and I just cried through the end.

5 reasons why Finding Felicity is for fans of Felicity AND everyone else!

1. Finding Felicity is set during a key transitional period in a young adult’s lifetime - the transition to college & freshman year. Felicity fans know this is a key element during the show!
2. Main character Caroline is one of the most realistic, relatable characters I’ve ever read. Stacey found unique ways to make her one of us while also showing us what makes her the person she is. I loved that we saw her ongoing mental health process through the story.
3. There are lots of secondary characters who need their own book! I would read stories about any of them. It’s like having a full cast!
4. There are 3 Supernatural references. Did Stacey write this just for me? 🤣
5. You don’t have to have watched Felicity to get it but there are enough references that will make you want to watch it for the first time or once again!

Really enjoyed this!
