A look into the love between a mother and a daughter with a dive into Chinese culture. I loved seeing their relationship with each other - and their individual journeys - blossom through the book while I learned a bit about their culture.
This is exactly what I wanted in this type of story. I appreciated the slight worldbuilding of the climate changed earth and the focus on two of the characters (rather than trying to balance so many). This is very much Hunger Games, but with space! The ending made me gasp and now I need book two.
The author narrates this alongside a male narrator (dual narration FTW) and is fantastic at it. Highly recommend!

5 Stars does not do this book justice. I love:
1. Charlotte’s journey and self reflection. There was more Charlotte than ever and the payoff is real.
2. Leander. Uncle Leander is an unsung hilarious side character. I need a novella.
3. Jamie. Oh Jamie. You are swoony.
4. Basically everything. This series and this book are flawless.
Come for the Sherlock/Holmes element, stay for the heart. It’s worth it.

I just finished this beautiful, character driven story of finding oneself and the complex experiences of becoming an adult. I am broken and rekindled all at once. This book will definitely make my top 10 this year.
“You need to know,” he started, and I closed my eyes waiting for him to punch me or tell me that he never wanted to see me again. “Even when we’re old, like Maggie said … every time I look at you, I’m going to be thinking of doing that again.”
Sean is a character readers won't easily forget. Throughout his life, he's had to make some tough decisions, some of which seem selfish and selfless at the same time. He's dealt with trauma and loss and goes through much heartache before getting some answers. Some answers he never gets - and isn't that life?
I appreciate Helene following through on the ending and giving us a bit more. I had accepted a different path for Sean and was happy to get the best of both worlds.
Sometimes we can't save others, we just have to save ourselves and hope it all comes together.

Such an interesting mix of the Wild West, futuristic tech, and a world of mystery and thrill!

This book was meant to make you uncomfortable, as we all should be when exploring and challenging rape culture. I Stop Somewhere has many tough to digest scenes and won’t leave you with a HEA, because this is real life. If you loved The Female of the Species or Moxie, I Stop Somewhere could be the book for you.
I just can’t get behind the fact that the MC made a reckless, easily avoidable decision that ruined her life for a boy she just met. That’s all I’m going to say.
