Starfire, Volume 1: Welcome Home
Jimmy Palmiotti, Mirco Pierfederici, Amanda Conner, Emanuela Lupacchino
SQUEE! I'm totally a line person so I get the excitement. Waiting in line, surrounded by YOUR PEOPLE, your kindred spirits, is the best part of any pop culture event. Cute little story about the experience, which will resonate deeply with you, if you're a line-person.
The best part of Batgirl is the team on the book WORKS. They’re cohesive, on the same page, and consistently delivering quality stories and art (how perfect is it that BABS TARR is the artist for this book?). (some Bat-Family spoilers ahead; no Batgirl spoilers, though!)
This book is so great for all ages. It’s focused on friendships, family, and being a butt kicking group of women.
Going into the second story, if you’re not reading the other Bat-Fam books, you should know that ****SPOILERS*** Bruce Wayne is currently not Batman. There’s a little quip about Jim Gordon looking too young to be Babs’ dad. ;)
What you’ll love:
-Bat-Fam crossover in the annual, including Gotham Academy (Maps+Olive can totally be in my Superhero Club)
-TIGERS.
-Diversity all over the place
-Babs using her super brain to solve mathematical patterns
-Frankie and Babs getting through Frankie’s discovery that her BFF is Batgirl.
-A few certain someones come to visit for the annual and then again in a big event in issue 45 (my favorite by far!)
-Luke…And those little scenes
-Babs and her motorcycle, especially in the annual
Pick up Batgirl of Burnside Vol 2 and catch up on the latest Batgirl butt kicking in her ongoing monthly book!
**Thank you to DC and NETGALLEY for providing me a copy in exchange for an honest review. I reread it after picking up individual issues and it was even better the second time!

Grayson, Volume 2: We All Die At Dawn
Steven Mooney, Tom King, Carlos M. Mangual, Mikel Janín, Jeremy Cox, Tim Seeley
The Lumberjanes are back and headed on a new adventure involving dinosaurs, Greek gods, and a massive game of catch the flag! What the junk?!
The crew has let their camp leader, Jen, join them in their friendship-bracelet-making and anagram-solving missions. All I know is 1. I want a hat-turned-raccoon named Bubbles 2. THAT SMOOCH 3. Yes, if I was imbued with powers, everyone would surely get a cat.

As a huge Supernatural fan, I enjoyed Anna Dressed in Blood far more than I thought I would! It's pretty gory but light on the scare factor.
Cas and his group of friends are great and I hope they return in the sequel.

The Fixer is a surprisingly captivating book that I would not typically pick up and am now glad I did!
Described as Scandal meets Veronica Mars, The Fixer steadily unfolds as a mystery novel, constantly adding depth to the various situations in a way that never feels forced or unrealistic. Or maybe I watch too much Scandal so nothing shocks me politically ;).
Tess has her world turned upside down when her sister and political Fixer, Ivy, plucks her from her life and places her at DC's most exclusive of schools. Quickly, Tess befriends Vivie and from there, they tumble down an unforgettable political rabbit hold, starting with the suspicious death of Vivie's grandfather. Finding her inner Fixer roots, Tess and her friends embark on a dangerous game of whodunit.
I love that the adult interactions aren't minimized in this book. It's unrealistic that a group of teens could tackle complex and dangerous political situations alone. There's a lot of "family drama" that unfolds (and I assume extends into the upcoming novel) but even that doesn't feel forced or unrealistic.
I caught this one on audio, which I would recommend. I was able to listen to it at 2x because the voice was paced correctly.

Wonderfully creepy adaptation of the original story!
Coraline is bored by the adults in her life. She seeks their attention but they're all too busy, shooing her away and mispronouncing her name. One day she finds a door to another world, a place where her Other Mother lives. Other Mother wants nothing more than to dote on Coraline and love her always and for ever. Sounds perfect, right? Wrong. Other Mother has a pesky habit of taking souls and never letting them go back home. Will Coraline make it back to her own world or will she be stuck in other-land?
The art on this graphic novel matches the creepy tones of the story. The expressions of the characters are captured perfectly. The art definitely tells the story through layout and pencils, just as much as the words.
Highly recommend but keep your lights on when reading!

Ripely is SO my spirit animal!
Lumberjanes will have you agreeing, Friendship to the Max, by the end of it! Great art and stories of a group of girls who get into some serious adventures while at summer camp. Those of us who were Scouts or spent summers away will identify with the intense friendships you develop with your cabinmates.
