3.5 stars I really enjoyed this book quite a bit. I absolutely love Jane Eyre, and I felt like this re-telling did justice to the source material.

A lot of people seem to really hate this book because it doesn't have the same dark themes as the original. I guess that just didn't bother me that much.

One complaint I have (and the reason I knocked a star off) was that we are supposed to believe that Jane has no idea what is going on in Nico's life after she leaves him. Now, I know that it is already established that Jane doesn't pay any attention to celebrities and popular culture, and her roommates don't have a television or read gossip magazines, but even so, it's hard to believe that they have no idea what is going on with a person who is incredibly famous. Especially after Jane comes clean with them about who she is. Maybe I'm just nosy, but if I found out my friend had dated a rockstar, I'd do a little research.

Other than that, I really enjoyed this update to one of my favorite classics.

This was a not-at-all-subtle modern take on Pride & Prejudice. Unfortunately, it did not work for me. The characters are just awful. Julia is one of the most annoying, uptight, pretentious female protagonists I've ever read, especially in a contemporary YA. She is so OCD and know-it-all that she makes Hermione Granger look like a lazy simpleton. It's beyond obnoxious. And her character has absolutely no growth throughout the story. Her opinions regarding certain characters change when she learns their true character, but she is just as insufferable at the end as she was in the beginning.

Jason was terrible too. He acted like an 11-year old kid rather than a 17-year old. He continually acts out and makes Julia feel awful. I hate that he calls her Book Licker. What the heck is that? Am I supposed to think that's cute? Cuz...no. Just no.

The plot was silly, the ending was rushed, and the 'love story' felt rushed and inauthentic.

This is the author's first story. I could possibly see myself giving her another chance in the future, but this story just did not work for me. I would say that it was a fast read, but I don't know how much of it was a 'fast read' and how much was that I couldn't stand being in Julia's head and found myself skimming a lot of her inner dialogue.

My favorite book of this series. Everything is wrapped up so wonderfully. Elisa grew so much over the course of this series, in a way that was authentic and very refreshing. Even though she is surrounded by people who are sworn to protect her, she is smart, strong, and strategic, and rarely needs help saving herself and others around her. She has definitely risen the ranks to one of my favorite heroines, along with Lia from the Remnant Chronicles.

I also love Elisa and Hector. Their love story felt so authentic. I was never a fan of Humberto. I didn't get a love vibe from their relationship at all. And as far as Alejandro went, he was too spineless for someone like Elisa. Hector and Elisa FTW!

I also really love all of the side characters in this story. There are a couple of new characters introduced in this third installment, which I'm not usually a fan of, but I really loved them, especially Red.

This story was so fast paced. I read it in one sitting, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have more of Rae Carson's books and I can't wait to dive in.

4.5 stars - I loved seeing the growth of Elisa throughout this second book. Most of the book was a solid 4-star read, but that last 50 pages was so fantastic that I seriously considered bumping my rating up to 5 stars. I can't imagine if I'd read this book when it came out and then had to wait for the final installment. Thank goodness I can just jump right into the next book.

Being a music nerd, I appreciated the musical theater aspect of this story. It was a super quick read (just over 100 pages), but I felt like it just wasn't fleshed out enough. The side characters are one-note (pun absolutely intended). I'm glad I got this from the library. If I'd spent $10 on this I would've felt very let down.

This book was very sweet. It was, for the most part, a nice, light, fluffy contemporary. There was one element that didn't quite fit for me, that seemed to be added to give unnecessary angst to the relationship. I didn't really like how that part was written, but ended up really enjoying this book for the most part. I read this very quickly in one sitting.
