I’m not a fan of this book. But I do like the writing style. That’s the only reason I did not DNF this one. And it is written very well indeed. I was quite hooked at around 40% of the read. But I still do not like the story - not my cup of tea at all. I do not fancy reading tragedies, the romance was too much for me. Not the author’s fault in any way - she has clearly written a very engaging account of the original mythological tale.

Such a great book. I particularly loved that this book gave us such insight into the character of Hoid, who is being hinted at in the other books. I loved the humour, Hoid’s thoughts and ideas, the persistence of Tress - overall a great book. I would love to have the physical book for my Home library.

A very interesting take on a very familiar story. At times, I felt like the author is forcing himself to rationalise and find scientific explanations for the strange parts of the tale. Uhh… I think a little fantasy and exaggeration is fine; not everything needs to be explained away. I understand that the charm of the author’s books are in part due to the casual, modern speech employed by the characters, but when ancient Indian mythological Gods start saying “touché”…. I’m baffled and shocked. Nonetheless, a great read!

This book covers a wide range of Japanese concepts. It gives a broad view into the culture and philosophies. But that is the problem too. None of the concepts are handled in sufficient detail. But it is still a great reminder of these wonderful, practical and beautiful ideas.

A wonderful tale, beautifully told. I read it in one setting. A story of a daughter’s valiant attempt to rescue her mother, not a theme I’ve read before - absolutely loved it. I especially loved how she stays true to her values in the face of danger. Will definitely be reading the sequels.

It was a great read. I love historical fiction quite a bit and I find that this book has been relatively faithful to the real Empress Sisi story in as much as we know from the records. I truly sympathised with the young, carefree girl who was forced to a difficult life after marriage. A tale as old as time - an overbearing mother, an inexperienced wife and a man caught in between. But I love that she was always able to retain the love of the public, in spite of her personal woes.

An excellent story. I like it even better than the Mistborn series. I would certainly love to read the Part 2 of this tale. Every character in this book stands out; their quirks, their reasons for being what they are - everything was awesome. The sentient sword was the best, though. I hope and pray that Sanderson will give us more on it. If I’d want just one Sanderson book on my shelves, it’d be Warbreaker. Highly recommend.

I have had this book for decades and have already read it quite a few times before. Definitely a read-again-and-again book. I love that Stephen Covey advocates age-old “goodness” principles for success. It is dense and idea-packed, hence time-consuming, but I certainly intend to re-read this book every year to keep the ideas fresh in my mind. Recommend for those who are willing to invest the time and thought to lead a principle-centered life.

Such a wonderful finale. I’m incredibly glad that I got started on this series. Love the characters, usually I’m partial to one or, at the most, two characters in one series. But in this one, I seem to be crazy about so many of them. The settings are lovely too. The challenges and tests are spell-binding. I could not put down this book. A most interesting read - would highly recommend.

I’ve always been a fan of Miss Marple books, but Poirot is starting to grow on me. I certainly did not see the twist in this one coming. A great mystery, all right. Highly highly recommend.
