It was a fun read, a memoir style story from an elderly lady’s pov, recounting her younger years. I love the time period set in this story and the adventurous spirit of the lady. But I’m not overly enthusiastic. I wish this had been a shorter book, I might have enjoyed it more. I do like it, just not too much. Also I think I’m upset about her personal loss - left me feeling quite despondent. It was unnecessary.

I’m a little confused about how I feel about this book. I still like the story, maybe there are a few plot holes / unexplained situations, but those do not take away from the intrigue. What does, though, are the totally unnecessary “spicy” scenes. I like books that can be read in public, and recommended to anyone without any qualms about appropriate-ness, hence the 3 stars. Hope that the next book Onyx Storm will focus on the story-telling.

An excellent mystery, well told. Miss Marple is one of my OG detectives ever. I love that an old, feeble lady is able toto understand people, their actions and their motives simply through astute observation, drawing comparisons with other people she has known and a little bit of scatter-brained play acting. The book starts out with a “completely blank” mystery and ends with an unexpected conclusion. Great book, highly recommend.

I definitely do not like the magical realism genre. This book was dream-like with lots of nonsensical fantasy incidents. The overall premise of the story is interesting. But this genre is not for me.

A great read. A fearsome world. A violent climate. And the people, no matter how different, remain the same - there’s greed, power, fear, grit, mediocrity and love, always. There’s a plot twist too, that I had begun to suspect a few chapters in. Very interesting. I cannot wait to continue this series.

This book was so easy to read. The story was unlike anything I’ve read so far; it gripped me from the beginning. This book has been on my TBR for ages; I regret having waited so long to read this one. There is so much talk about “death”, but it is well written, not morbid or preachy. Great book. Highly recommend! And I plan to read the complete series soon.

A very Indian fantasy/mythology/historic tale. Religion is definitely a part of it - Hinduism is explained succinctly - while not denigrating other beliefs. To quote: “Scoundrels are not restricted to any one faith. They are born under every creed, every race.” Well, that cannot be denied. The idea of a human God is fanciful - it is a contemporary fantasy, I suppose. Overall, it is a very interesting story. I shall certainly be continuing this series.

A very interesting story - especially since I’m reading this after the Covid-19 fiasco. The situations and premise is far too chillingly similar, even though the ending was distinctly different. Another thing I find interesting about Dan Brown books is the detailed description of the architecture of the Venetian and Italian ancient buildings. I definitely enjoyed this “nearly prophetic” book.

I'm not the target audience. I like my self help books to teach me to be better, not to "lazy"-fy me. This book is strictly meant for people struggling with mental health.

A great book, and now I cannot wait to read the third book in the series. What a line to end the book with, though.
