A Love Catastrophe

Helena Hunting

DID NOT FINISH: 13%

Thank you Forever and NetGalley for the eARC of A Love Catastrophe.  All opinions in this review are my own.

Helena Hunting is a hit or miss author for me and unfortunately this one was a miss.  The main characters just seemed too stereotypical.  Miles is a dog owner that cannot understand how anyone could love cats while Kitty meows when she talks.

Between Us

Thank you Avon and NetGalley for the eARC of Between Us.  All opinions in this review are my own.

I have mixed feelings about this book but eventually I had to DNF it.  I like the friend group dynamics and found myself laughing out loud quite a few times at their antics.  However, the pacing was too slow for me.  It took over 100 pages to get to the event described in the synopsis.  I also really didn't like Joe and have no interest in reading about Roison trying to fix her relationship with him.

I have heard great things about this author so maybe I will try again with another book!

Thank you Harper Perennial for the gifted copy of All Our Shimmering Skies. All opinions in this review are my own.

I thought this was going to be a different story than it was but I decided to try it. Once I got to the scene when Molly is
forced to dig up her mother's grave
, I knew I was done with it though.

American Mermaid

Thank you Double Day and NetGalley for the ARC of American Mermaid.  All opinions in this review are my own.

A burnt out teacher writes the next best-selling book and moves to LA to make it into a movie. The movie executives want to make significant changes to the book which the author doesn't agree with. She also complains a lot about how expensive things are even though she admits to having money now.

I read 50 pages and I am stopping. I just don't think this writing style is for me and reading about how the movie version of the book is going to make drastic changes is painful. I think I would have rather read the book that the main character wrote than the main character's experience.

Friends Don't Fall in Love

Erin Hahn

Thank you SMP Romance and NetGalley for the eARC of Built to Last.  All opinions in this review are my own.

I read Built to Last by Erin Hahn and absolutely loved it!  Unfortunately, I think it was a one time thing for this author because I DNFed her YA book Never Saw You Coming.  I had high hopes for Friends Don't Fall in Love but from the start, I didn't like how school shootings were included in the book.  I know they aren't explicitly described on the page, but it felt out of place to be in a romance book about country stars.  I wanted a lighthearted read and this reminder took me out of it.

The Mysterious Double Death of Honey Black

DID NOT FINISH: 33%

Thank you Love Book Tours and Hera Books for the gifted ebook of The Mysterious Double Death of Honey Black!  All opinions in this review are my own.

The title of this mystery immediately grabbed my attention!  I also loved the old Hollywood setting that the main character is eventually thrust into!  I am used to being able to fly through mysteries so the slower pace of this one was a change.  I like how the main character has to race against the clock to try to solve Honey Black's death before it happens!

The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece

Tom Hanks

I wanted to like this book so much but after an hour of listening to it, I realized I liked hearing Tom Hanks talk more than the story.

DNF at 36 pages

Unfortunately, I didn't like the banter between the two characters and once Tara threw up on Seth's shoes because she was drunk, I knew that was it for me.  Tara and Seth just seem too immature for me.

The Camp

Nancy Bush

DID NOT FINISH: 44%

I ended up DNFing The Camp 170 pages into it.  This is not an easy thriller to read.  There are so many characters that are introduced that weren't even at the camp, but they are all related so you have to keep track of them.  One of the main characters was also severly injured in an unrelated attack that is mentioned but never focused on in this book. Apparently all of the storylines do come together at the end and the last 100 pages are really exciting, but I don't want to wait to get to it.

Double-Decker Dreams: A Novel

Lindsay MacMillan

DID NOT FINISH: 11%

Thank you Alcove Press and NetGalley for the ARC of Double Decker Dreams!  All opinions in this review are my own.

I had to DNF this book at 11%.  I didn't mind Kat daydreaming about the man she saw through her window on the bus, but it was starting to get old when he hadn't made an appearance at this point in the book.  Once Kat started having "conversations" with him on her trip to Bath, I couldn't read anymore.
