I had a hard time getting into this one. I didn't love the main character and it took her so long to get to Venice. Even when she was there, the fact that Imani was just handing out money felt too unrealistic, especially since the main character is there because she is skeptical. How does she instantly take Imani up on her offer to go on this all-expenses paid trip in the first place?

I loved the premise of this one, but unfortunately, I had issues with the pacing. Elinor Coombes is trapped in a loveless marriage and pretends that she died on the sinking of the Titanic in order to start a new life in New York. After reading a decent amount of the book and listening to Elinor complain about how terrible her life is, I got impatient about her actually getting on the Titanic. After reading some reviews, it seems like it doesn't happen until about midway through and although the book picks up, I'm not willing to wait around until then. I wish the parts about her marriage had been interspersed throughout the book instead of the beginning.

I have another book, The Bonesetter Woman, but the same author so I am willing to give her another chance!

This book sounded intriguing but took too long to get started. I found that if I'm skimming this early on, I should just stop. I was expecting it to be more of a thriller but it's more of a family drama.

I had such a hard time getting into this one. I think it was partly due to the constant switching between Kate's point of view and her main character's story. I wish it hadn't leaned so heavily into Kate's mystery writing and instead focused on the mystery she was trying to solve.

In the beginning, I could ignore how simple the writing was because the mystery was so intriguing. However, I only made it two chapters into Trent's part (Part 3) and I can't do it anymore. I get that the author is trying to make this character unlikable but this seemed over the top. I couldn't keep reading the sexist and anti-trans rants just to find out what happens.

I could not believe the amount of information I learned about these two characters in such a short amount of time. I was already hesitant when I found out that the FMC's husband passed suddenly a few years ago and she lives with his parents who are still actively greiving him because I wasn't in the mood for such an emotionally heavy romance. I like the concept that she is a ghostwriter for cookbooks and the MMC just won a cooking competition so I wanted to keep reading, but I felt overwhelmed by the amount of information we learn about the MMC. He is short, has red hair, ADHD (which may or may not affect his reading ability since he needs everything read aloud for him), and he is mostly ignored by parents. I felt like the author leaned a little too hard into the opposites attract trope and was trying too hard to make it clear that the MMC is the "wrong" choice for the FMC, which unfortunately stopped me from really connecting with either character. Maybe it gets better but I also am trying to get better about recognizing when books aren't for me and DNFing them.

I DNFed this one at 39% and I am disappointed about it. I loved the opening few chapters and the premise, but I felt weird about Aspen paying Brick to break her heart, especially since she already tried to "seduce" him (which bordered on harassment).

There are too many characters introduced too early on so it makes it difficult to understand what is happening.  I know there are three storylines in this book, but I feel like I needed a very strong understanding of Greek mythology to figure out who everyone is and what is happening.

I am unfortunately DNFing at 13%. As good as this one originally sounded, it starts out too slow for me.
