The Helsinki Affair

DID NOT FINISH: 16%

This one just did not work for me at all. The writing was choppy and by page 30, I could care less about anything.

I loved Razorblade Tears and to be honest, I think this one was better. Now it is time to go and read Cosby's backlist.

This book is a tad graphic for those who need to know that going in. But I loved Titus as a main character, and Cosby's depiction of small towns was spot on. I have seen some reviews in which people say the characters were too focused on race and politics. Then say it was distracting. To me, it was a clear part of the plot and no one can deny that there are not still people who have these beliefs. The story was well written and the procedural part of it was not slow (IMO) in any way shape or form.

Highly recommend.

She’s Not Sorry by Mary Kubica (Out 4.2.24) #partner @parkrow

I absolutely devoured this book. What seemed like a cut and dry plot, turned into something else. Kubica tells the story of Meghan, an ICU nurse, who lives in Chicago. When a woman who has brought in, we deep dive into a twisty, layered plot.

Piece by piece it comes together and it was well done. Meghan drove me nuts when it came to Nat, but the reasoning she acts as she does is explained well enough that I could buy in. The ending was on point as well, which is is always a worry for me with thriller/suspense books. Like please don’t steer this ship into the iceberg. Kubica does the opposite. She ended this in a way that made me satisfied.

Highly recommend!

Have you been to Chicago before? I’ve been w the husband twice & took my mom a couple years ago!

I snagged this one in my Aardvark box without reading the blurb or knowing anything about it. People were so excited for it and so I was too! LOL

This starts.... slow. But once I had a grasp on the "world", characters, and their nuances, it truly picked up. The book is well written and the storyline is well executed. I am hoping this becomes a series.

Thank you to the publisher for a Netgalley of this second book in the Skyland series.

I was very interested to read more about Soledad after book 1 in this series. Reading her story was emotional and intriguing. Watching her relationship with her three daughters was enjoyable as I am 1 of 3 girls and know that relationships with our moms can be complicated-- especially when we are young and a daddy's girl! It was a little too cookie cutter at the end, but I still enjoyed it.

Thank you to the publisher for a Netgalley.

I enjoyed the premise of this book and to be honest it is one of HPR's best in my opinion. The reason for the 3.75 stars is the very end was a little cheesy. But I liked the twists and how it all came together.

This sequel was quite fun and well written. Rowley is such an amazing writer. He gives me all the feels without complete tearing my heart out. (Lovingly looking at you Backman). And sometimes those feels are what I need.

Taking place five years after book 1, we are reunited with Patrick and the whole family. I love the relationship Patrick has with the kids and how his relationship has changed with his siblings. This book took us through Europe, which I also loved. The overall main premise is seeing how Greg's kids are struggling with his upcoming remarriage. Watching this develop and meeting the "launt" was fun.

My biggest qualm was that sometimes Patrick's constant snark and comments were tiresome. Like at what point do we grow up a bit or just have a conversation without his "cool" remarks?

I enjoyed this book. It was good and fast paced. I found some of the writing to be repetitive.

Thank you to the publisher for a Netgalley of this upcoming thriller/suspense novel.

Fast paced, popcorn thriller. And that is not being said in a negative way as sometimes that is the exact book I want to read. The competition our characters face get out of hand quickly. And it all comes together nicely. I have some thoughts about the ending, but overall this was an entertaining read.

I loved this book and I cannot believe I took so long to read this. Spicy as all get out. The relationship between Josiah & Yasmen was soooo amazing. The grief they went through was well written and seeing their family moving through it was a bag of emotions. Will be starting book 2 very soon!
