Wow. I have Ace of Spades on my shelf at home. Have I picked it up? No. Will I now? Yes.
Àbíké-Íyímídé has us in a fancy schmancy boarding school with all the usual tomfoolery and misdeeds. But this one is so much deeper. The back story of Sade and how her backstory then ties in to the current time-- perfectly executed. I found the secondary characters to be well developed and most had redeeming qualities. And that ending...
I did not find the story to be outlandish in any way as we know stuff like this sadly occurs. We know of the people who get away with stuff due to who they are or their social standing.
My only qualm was the pacing at times. But honestly, that's probably more of a me thing.
I highly recommend this book.

Absolutely loved this book. Loved the plot. Loved the characters.
I flew through this book and super bummed that book 2 is not here!

Always love getting my hands on a Veronica Speedwell novel. This mystery was so well done. All the little pieces coming together one at a time. And I love the relationship between Stoker & Veronica!
I am truly struggling how to rate this one. I LOVED pieces of it, but others not so much.
What I loved:
- the ending
- some of Piglet's inner monologue
- the inserts with italics as they were setting the stage
- her sister and her boyfriend
- the wedding scene
What I did not love:
- never knowing the betrayal though we can assume
- her father
- some of Piglet's inner monologue
Do I recommend? Yes.

I normally don't love short story collections and I genuinely avoid them. I actually DNFed a book of ss just before this one.
Well I saw this book at a bargain store and I have heard great things about CS' books. I did not realize this was short stories when i bought it, but I went in trying to keep an open mind.
And man, I am happy I did. These stories were really well written. There was one or two that made me say meh. But overall, these stories were well written and honestly most women can connect to the feelings/thoughts/actions of many women in this book.
Def recommend.

Boring. Two stories in and I am not having it.
Thank you to the publisher for a free Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
And to be honest, this one was just not good. In her typical writing format, Foley has numerous points of view and short chapters. The short chapters make it a fast read, but at times the shortness meant we were not really learning a single thing about the characters. This was my problem with The Paris Apartment as well. Yes, the Guest List followed the same format, but I found we weren't left completely hanging every chapter.
The journal entries were fine, but honestly were not great. They did not add to the story, I think I would have preferred flashbacks while in the characters' chapters. The "birds" if meant to be creepy were not.
I always look forward to a book by Foley, but this one just did not do it for me. The plot was meh and I will post my biggest wth in the spoiler below.
At this point, I genuinely wish that Foley would change up her writing style and try something different.
You are telling me that Francesca did not recognize a single person? Not Owen? Not Michelle? Not Eddie looking like this brother? Not "Bella"? I know people change from their teens on, but come on? Not a single one of them?

Magic? Magical books? Secrets? Yes, yes, and yes.
Really enjoyed this story. I thought it would be a slow 400 pages, but nope. I flew threw this book in 2 sittings. Very much enjoyed the story and honestly all of the characters. I found Nicholas' story to probably be the most intriguing, but I did not find myself disappointed when we were "with" one of the sisters.

Thank you to the publisher for a free copy of Tudor's newest. I am firm believer that Tudor gets better and better with each book. Each time, I read a book by her, I swear it is my favorite.
Set in Alaska, where it is common in the world for vampyr colonies live not far from human colonies. When a teen human is killed, people are livid and are demanding for a full colony cull. Barbara is a Detective and Vampyr Anthropologist.
Barbara is being pressured from the community to order the cull, but she refuses to not investigate fully. This leads us into a deep dive of a small community, which of course has its secrets. The plot was intriguing, though slow at times, but overall this is a solid novel. Tudor tells a story with enough pieces that need to be connected, but not so many you feel lost.
HIghly recommend.
