💔I am broken💔
I loved this so much, this CRIMINALLY underrated novel was so sad and beautiful and devastating. I love a book written around a book and the lore behind this added so much to the story. I loved the themes and the way it was structured around food. It perfectly captured the feeling of falling in love, every part of this hit so hard😭
"Chi-Chan did not deny it. The gentle light in her eyes was just like the rivers shimmer that flashed between the trusses of the bridge"

Took me so long to finish but wow once I got to the end I realized how good it was... We are all trying to figure ourselves out❤️🩹I loved how so much of Jonny's character was revealed in the descriptions of characters he interacted it. Very earnest and tender🤞🤞
A very interesting story but some parts didn't make sense to me. First, why did literally nobody keep that swim coach in check??!! Bro was literally a stereotypical man coach villain and nobody either notices or does anything about his obviously abusive behaviors the ENTIRE book. I also didn't really understand the timeline of Ren and Cathy's relationship, at times it seems like Ren hates Cathy and other times relies on her completely. Parts of the inner monologue got repetitive. It did really remind me of The Pisces but I honestly liked it better for the horror/sapphic elements :3 I would recommend, I just didn't LOVE it
I love stories about trans teenagers figuring themselves out... BEING TRANS IS CONFUSING and I loved Sasha Masha's character (even if their inner dialogue was a little repetitive). I liked all the characters, especially Mabel, I liked that we only heard from her over the phone or in memories. I felt like it wrapped up a little too quickly; I wanted a reconciliation with Andrew and more about coming out to the parents. But still very much enjoyed!!
This was a lot more confusing than volume 1, I'm interested in the story but they kept focusing on explaining all the wrong things. Does it get better😩
I loved both of the other Catherine Lacey books I read, "Biography of X" and "Pew", but I didn't connect with this as much as those. The prose was more sprawling, stream of consciousness which used to be my favorite and now I just get tired of it quickly... The story was interesting, but not as interesting as the other Lacey novels I read, I didn't find the MC very likable. My favorite part was the middle-ending section. Still a Catherine Lacey stan tho🙏
Short creepy stories, I loved the art in this, especially the use of color... My favorites were "A Lady's Hands Are Cold", "His Face All Red", and "The Nesting Place". Also loved the gender ambiguous characters and the mystery within the stories! Some of the stories felt underdeveloped and perhaps too YA for me.
My first book of the year🥳it kinda made no sense... The plot about the religious cult and the volcano seemed very disconnected, I just could not follow the story at all. Also what was that whole subplot with the banning of Christianity?
I LOVE TAYLOR SWIFT AND SHE DESERVES EVERYTHING!! Tour book was so good, I just would have liked more behind the scenes/less pictures taken from the Eras Tour movie⭐🔮💎😽
