Love the central premise of this -- a trauma rescue specialist, working from a 'Sector General' style hospital.  And big chunks of the action were good fun.  

However, I found some of the pacing uneven, and in places a lot of pages to achieve not-a-lot.

Can standalone, and worth a read if you enjoy medical sci-fi!

A neatly-done retelling, taking out quite a lot of the original and yet leaving the core structure to support a different story.  Much more modern language throughout, straightforward to read.

I understand why this worked better as YA but would have liked a version with older characters too.  I don't think it's essential to have read the original, but I think if you haven't, you'll need to be the sort of reader that can just roll with some slightly odd plot points and behaviour, since some of the context is thin otherwise.

Lovely open poly romance/relationships story. 

Deals with a lot of grief over the course of the book, so not a fluffy read, but lovely in how it handles its characters and relationship development. Could standalone, but I hope there'll be more.

Useful definitions at the start, I wasn't familiar with all of them ... and note there's a character list at the end, I mostly tracked who meant what to whom ... but a couple of side characters I needed to check to be sure.

Another fluff-with-depth installment of this lovely series.  Not really a standalone.

Recommended if you'd like a series with 1% hurt, 99% comfort ... building family and relationships, PTSD-rep, relearning to trust, respect and grow.

I do feel like there's stuff I'm missing, there are a number of asides "of course he understood why she felt that way," that went over my head. But that's fine, as long as the characters know what they're doing, I'm just along for the ride.

A meditative parable on living in chains of different kinds.  Probably a denunciation of capitalism though that's honestly a bit over my head. The use of phones was very on the nose.

I cared about one half of the POVs rather more than the other half, so this book felt a bit uneven.  However, I think that's really a me-problem, since it would have been hard to tell the story any other way; it's very grand in scope & time.

Arachnaphobia warning, just in case you never read another thing about this story and need to know that.

I enjoyed this overall, and think it would be fine as a standalone ... there is a little trailer for the next book, but I'm comfortable ignoring it :) 

Fascinating small-town Alaska setting -- 2024 contemporary but with vampyrs living in poorly-tolerated colonies on the edge of human-populated areas.  

I enjoyed the characters and plot for the most part, though definitely felt towards the end

like I'd run out of book before I ran out of plot, and it does finish much more quickly than I'd expected/hoped for.

People who might like this:  anyone liking a good police procedural, looking for the Fargo vibe, or a twist on the usual 'vampires are so marvellous' mythology
People who might not:  people who like a good bit of worldbuilding around their vampyrs, want to avoid gore (it's not wild, but it is horror-genre), likewise avoiding personal weight references, or prefer small towns to be non-diverse.

Overall, it's not perfect, but it's a good time.
