Beautifully-written Green Man novella.
It's a light-touch story I think, so if you're in the mood for something a bit 'more' in terms of plot, pacing, characterisation etc., then save this one for another time ... perhaps a rainy Sunday afternoon where you can sit by a window that looks out onto somewhere green, with a cup of tea, to read and enjoy. (Because really it has a perfectly fine plot, a sensible pace and charming characters; I loved it.)

Beautiful writing, engaging characters and setting, utter disaster of the last part of the book.
I have a pet peeve about books that finish halfway through the story arc, as this one does, so that was never going to go well. But the climactic scenes here, and the emotional place we leave the characters, is deeply uncomfortable (see the top 1 star reviews if you want more info before reading.)
Reflecting overall, I was also vexed earlier on in the story.
Will read some other things and see if I want to come back to finish later in the year, but sadly, no hurry.

Spoiler
Our lead is a engineering prodigy, who's terrible at the arts of war, so we spend a good chunk of time ... watching him learn to ride, brawl and sword-fight. There's a tempting little description of his invention of the compound steam engine, but zero follow-through. Perhaps the second book picks that up, but honestly, I think it'll need to spend so much time rebuilding our belief in the central relationship, there just won't be room. Will read some other things and see if I want to come back to finish later in the year, but sadly, no hurry.
I picked this up based on it having a teapot on the cover. As good a basis to pick a read as any, and a winning strategy in this case, I loved this book! It starts highly confusingly, and I did struggle a bit in the first 50 pages, but then I rechecked the GR rating, trusted my fellow readers, and settled in.
I'd shelve this next to Hench and people are VERY welcome to recommend me any other fics where organisational skills are the REAL superpower.

Thought-provoking read from a kind author.
