Trying to find reasons not to give this 5 stars is very, very hard. I'm biased because immediately it reminded me of Toni Morrison's Paradise. Whether or not that was intentional, I'm not gonna look it up, but I love it even more for that.

Passing is a thing that happened and I'm sure there are still many, many quadroons and hexadecaroons walking around without a clue. I've always felt sympathy for the people who passed, and this book definitely gave me a new / another understanding. (I mean, who can be mad at you for wanting better for your life and your family?) To be moved so much by a book show just how good it is. That being said though I do not feel sympathy for Stella!
After what she did to Loretta and Reg?!
This one's definitely staying on my bookshelf.

This book is 40% period talk, 39% food talk, and 20% sports. 1% is other. Very cute and fun!

A long time ago I saw a TikTok about this book calling it existential dread / horror for kids. Well, it's not really (just for a little bit) but it's still very good and very cute. I gave it such a high rating for the art style. 5 stars for the beautiful, vibrant art. 4 stars for the dog at the front wheel.

So cute. I, too, am a Black girl from California. I love when kids books aren't cringe. This one doesn't talk down to it's audience so extra points.

Total rating is based on the rounded sum of each story's ratings. 3.85, but I decided to round up.

Anthologies are particularly tough, for me, because you're diving into a whole world for only a few pages. This anthology, however, is beautiful! I wouldn't say all of them are hits, but they all are certainly good. Only one story got two stars from me. The rest were 3.25 and up to 3 stories I considered worthy of 5 stars. Three! In an anthology! I had to give bonus points because for every story I went "Mm, gay people 🥰" . It's just so nice to have stories about us. Multiple stories! In one book! Happy Pride.

Very nice, very lovely. I didn't know what to say about the book as a while but then I saw my friend's name in the acknowledgements, so that's pretty cool!

A perfect book for socialist baby lesbians in crisis. No I will not elaborate!

This one hits a lil too close to home for me because I too currently work in healthcare with a woman who has memory loss and I too am gay and have a girlfriend and I too do not like my roommate and I also do not have children. I am all of these characters. So extra points for being relevant to me and the life I currently live but who knows how I'll feel about it next year. I like the way the emotions are expressed. Even though it's a translation of a language I don't know I feel they did the original justice.

The most confusing part of this book is the names. But! It's clear that was intentional. Everything else? Pretty lovely. (I don't mean that literally for every aspect. Don't cancel me.)

I don't love the writing style, but I don't hate it either. I kind of like it. I like stream of consciousness, pure, raw unfiltered thoughts but it also feels like they must've paid by the letter in the olden days :/

Virginia Woolf said nonbinary lesbian rights also Ginny girlie you would've loved Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema by Laura Mulvey.
