This Promised Land: A Novel

There are so so so many books from white authors about Indigenous people. I'd read a book about that phenomenon. So far all the ones I've seen are really boring, which makes sense.

There really were some lovely poems but then I got to those big bous and I'm like "What do you have to say that is THIS much?!" Would've been a 3.5 star. I thought Leigh Hunt was a girl but either way I hope they kissed he reeeaaallly loved that guy.

I try to power through poetry I don't like because I think reading any and everything can have some sort of creative benefit toward me and my art / writing, but there's an attempt at something here I personally find unsuccessful. And I don't have to put myself through that. There are no rules!

A Little History of Poetry

I read A Very Short Introduction: Poetry and that was a better book. This book basically shows the prominent poets and poems but doesn't give more history and philosophy into poetry-making and the world of what was going when the poetry was made. It does that to an extent but it's mostly analysis of the lines it uses as examples. It's just not the kind of "A history of poetry" book I'm looking for but I would've rated this somewhere around 3.5 stars.

A Psalm for Us

This is so boring :/ Straight people just have crystal clear minds with absolutely no substance. Good for them I guess but I can barely hold a conversation with this kind of person. There's just NOTHING there, no weight or meat or flavor. I'm glad you're finding your way but I was waiting for a good poem and couldn't find one. I skimmed the other sections and nothing. Not wasting the rest of my time.

If you like this book, you'll love r.h Sin.

I just couldn't get into the rhythm, or lack thereof, or voice of the poems from just about the first page. Is there a term for a SWANA (Southwest Asian / North African) weeaboo? She would be it based on what I could grasp.

The writing is bad. I can get over a characteer's perspective being off and influencing the writing style but even the formatting isn't right. Too many noticeable issues.

XX: Poems for the Twentieth Century

I misunderstood what the book was. I thought it was a collection of poetry written by people who lived during the era. That being said, it's still very white. Picasso is brought up at least 20 times? Ew. I made a vow that I'd read every book I picked up from the library but through the first pages I noticed all the poems had the same voice, that's when I realized my mistake, and them I thought I really don't have to stick to that rule. If I feel like it's a waste of time, I can put it down.
